Anyone think that Joey Swoll goes overboard?

Yeah, I definitely see what you're saying, but then I think some of the videos are relatively benign--like where someone walks by a video and the influencer briefly bemoans it--relative to the hardcore backlash they receive. I remember a woman was filming herself and a guy approached her pretty aggressively and told her he didn't want to be in her video and she posted something like, "What's this guy's problem?" and it seemed like the Swoll army just went in way too hard on her, where like, everything she posted for a while had some Swollios going after her.

Some stuff he goes after is pretty bad though, like those guys making fun of the handicapped dude busting his butt doing squats, for example. Really, tons of them are super-obnoxious. I just don't know about the part where peole flock to all their social media and nuke them, especially the tamer ones.
I've not seen most of his videos so I can't say, I'm not subbed, they just pop into my feed once in awhile. To be fair, yeah, if someone does something relatively benign they shouldn't be harassed into eternity, I've not thought about the consequences, like many (most?) I just watch a clip of someone being a dick or making a false accusation and think, "well, you purposely posted a video online of you being an asshole, this is what can happen."

Dude’s gonna die soon it seems . He had some kind of heart procedure last year and just recently he posted a pic of him after “ routine heart surgery “that lasted 6 hours. There is no “ routine “ heart surgery. Dude”s prob damaged his heart from excessive “ supplements.”

Yeah...I had to chuckle at the "Routine" heart surgery.....Its weird that a lot of Pros have "Routine" heart surgery

I don't have a problem with someone calling out narcissists or girls who think it's not illegal to film in the locker room just because they aren't a guy.

Yeah, filming in the locker room is annoying. One of my boys got caught in a bodybuilders flexing photo in the locker room and people on the bodybuilder's Facebook were ragging on my buddy like he was checking the bodybuilder out...it was pretty obnoxious.

Rage porn grievance influencers wear their hearts on their sleeves and do nothing but bitch. I don't watch him. I don't need to go to YouTube to hear people complain.

His videos are made for people who don't go to the gym. I go to a big gym with power lifting, people talking about steroids openly, and young attractive people filming. I am the weird old guy stretching in the aerobics room. Never have I ever had a bad interaction with anyone, or seen anything go down. If you work out, Joey Swoles videos won't appeal to you because he is talking about irrelevant bullshit.
I've been working out all my life, I mean, before I was even in middle school and I find his videos interesting. I think its just one of those things where different people are gonna find different stuff compelling. I couldn't exactly explain why. I think because I've spent so much of my life in the gym and its some of the only content exploring the social context of gyms in any sort of way. I dunno.

As far as negative gym interactions, I think it just depends on the gym. I've known no shortage of gym bullies, I'm friends with two of my areas most infamous gym bullies, though the other one hates me. The gym I'm at right now is amazing; everyone leaves each ohter alone and when there is interaction, it almost always tends to be positive. For the most part, there's only one guy I can think of that goes out of his way to be a jerk and I usually miss him. This gym is kind of perfect because everyone is cool, sometimes complementary, but almost never disruptive of my workout. Like a bunch of people going to the gym and leaving each other alone.

Probably do need his rage filled shaming videos. People who film themselves at the gym should be ashamed, people who get mad at people walking in front of their shot should be hanged Benoit style
It can sometimes work wonders on your form though. There is that part.

I feel like a lot of these fitness influencers are annoying TBH

I saw a few videos by this one guy who gave some decent tips on body composition and proper squat techniques. Then I went to check out his channel and it's chock full of videos of him dissing famous actors and their workout routines.

Like, really dude? You're going to talk shit about the Rock and Chris Hemsworth, two of the hottest actors in Hollywood while you claim to know better on your little youtube channel that most people don't know about?

He's no Joey Abs

but does anyone else think that maybe the guy could include in his videos a disclaimer that people shouldn't attack the people he's critiquing or bomb their social media accounts?

No.

Since getting back into fitness, I can’t believe how much worse the fitness community has gotten. Fitness influencers are insufferable too. Just work out and shut the fuck up.

I go to a “power lifter” gym now, despite not being particularly into heavy lifting because there’s no BS and the clientele is a blot better. No cameras, polite people, no BS. Bros helping bros, it’s nice. There’s women that go too but they’re not your annyoing Instagram girls at all.

You're on point about the fitness community being in a weird place.

I used to lift and go to gyms a lot over 10 years ago, had to slow down due to a health issue. Got back into it 3 years ago and some of the changes are just, odd.

People taking videos of their routines

People giving unsolicited erroneous advice

People just generally being distracted by their phones and not paying attention to people trying to get a workout done when they are walking right by them. I almost knocked someone out when I was working on a press and they got right in front of my lift. WTF

I put my headphones on and just do my thing and get out.

Influencers are something else though- if I didn't know any better and was brand new at the gym and looking for advice, I'd literally be lost with all of the erroneous and contradictory information out there.

Hockey is a weird place now too. Hyper-commercialized. I’m only in my mid-30’s and it feels like the world is so different from when I grew up. I help out at some camps and it’s unbelievable how nuts some of these parents are. I was a volunteer shooter at a goalie clinic for u16 and the parents are having these poor kids on skates, training like pros all year round. It doesn’t seem fun at all. I played major junior 15 years ago and even at the highest level, it was nothing like it is now for AA, u16 kids.

I got a goodlife membership and felt uncomfortable for the first time in my life at a gym. The whole thing was bizarre. So many wannabe Instagram models man. Gen Z is drastically different. I was there a month and some dude approached me wondering if I was looking to buy gear lol. That used to be super hush hush and now they’re all over social media and in person talking about it too.

I feel really weird about soceity as a whole now. Maybe it’s me realizing I’m old but everything has changed so much. My local, small gym is great though. No rude gym bullies, no weird Instagram girls, no tripods. Holy shit if I owned a gym, I’d ban everybody with a tripod
