Indeed. Pretty negligent to be letting someone who’s that far away from being fully developed engage in professional combat15 is too young to be pro, hes gonna end up like Rory McDonald
Would be more impressive if he had a 15-0 4yo brother.
Do they call him Nacho, or not yo? Asking for BW so he can research it in teh bc.Related note:
Ignacio is training with Khabib, Islam, Belal, Usman, etc. at the moment.
I'm very high on his potential. Kid is only 26.
Canelo was pro at 15. It's not terribly uncommon in combat sports.
It's not good if he's going life and death in these fights but if he's fighting randoms who aren't dangerous for the first few years, no problem.
yeah but boxing is different, they meticulously match you up with guys they know everything about and you can beat until they think you're ready. in MMA you could fight a Jon Jones type motherfucker in your 2nd fight and not even know it. going pro in boxing, they're still molding you and babying your career. going pro in MMA and most likely you're going to be in the open ocean where there's guppies AND great whites swimming around, and you won't know which one is which until you run into them.
that's why good boxers are known to boxing afficionados even while they are in amateurs. while good MMA fighters, you only know them once they start beating the fuck out of guys in UFC. that's why everyone knew Lomachenko before he even became a pro, and nobody knew who Jon Jones was when he popped into UFC until he start annihilating everyone.
Pantoja made pro debut a week after turning 17, is 34 as champ currently. Was competing in Muay Thai and BJJ before MMA too.
Jose Aldo made his pro debut at 17 too.
Max Holloway was competing in amateur kickboxing and MMA at 14 and went pro at 18.
The Thing about Brazil is, they don't really have an amateur system the way the US and Russia do, so they just tend to fight pro younger. The "rory macdonald" thing is nonsense and fans just can't get passed it. That Lawler war could ruin anyone, at any age. Beyond that the kids heart was never in it and that caught up to, he was an amazing talent though.
Should he really be doing that at that age?
It wasn't the actual damage that ruined him. Plenty have taken more damage than he took in those fights. It wasn't just the Lawler fight. The first Condit fight was pretty brutal too. But yeah, Rory started fighting top guy after top guy by the age of 21 and happened to fight guys like Condit and Lawler who are straight warriors. His style didn't really do him any favors either.
