Kurosawa. The rest of these guys hit their stride pre and post 60s. I'd make Bergman a close 2nd though and Leone is up there too but his greastest wouldn't exist without Kurosawa so...
Kurosawa’s 50s > Kurosawa’s 60s

High and Low is one of his best/my favorites though.

My rule is 3
Even if the question is what director had the best three movies in the 60's, and what were those movies, you should have listed all their movies from that timespan for the voters and then listed your own favorites. {<shrug}

Kubrick, Bergman, Hitchcock and Kurosawa are the best in every decade

I can't argue this. Throne of Blood is my #1 with High and Low and Red Beard are tied for #2 probably. Kurosawa is the only director I can do a Top 10 Masterpieces list of.

Kubrick

Spartacus
Dr Strangelove
2001 Space Odyssey

Leone

For A Few Dollars More
The Good The Bad & The Ugly
Once Upon A Time in the West

Kurosawa

Yojimbo
High & Low
Red Beard

Hitchcock

Psycho
The Birds
Marnie

Bergman

The Virgin Spring
Winter Light
Shame

Wise

West Side Story
The Sound of Music
The Sand Pebbles

Wilder

The Apartment
One, Two, Three
Irma La Douce

Polanski

Rosemary's Baby
Repulsion
Knife in the Water

(Will add more suggestions as we go)

My pick is Leone
Enjoying these decade threads. Bring on the golden age!

Leone, Kubrick, Hitchcock. Imo in order. All 3 far ahead of others

Always had a weak spot for Masaki Kobayashi.

The Human Condition
Harakiri
Kwaidan
Samurai Rebellion

Kobayashi is a great shout. Harakiri is easy 60s top ten for me. i’m an unwashed miscreant who hasn’t watched The Human Condition (or Samurai Rebellion tbh), so it didn’t feel right to include him on my ranking/list

Kind of ironic Leone is beating when one of his three on the list is a Kurosawa remake. For me it’s definitely Kurosawa.

Kubrick is overrated. Space Odyssey sucks, I said it.

Hitchcock doesn’t get enough credit imo. He made a bunch of great movies. I don’t know Bergman very well. I think I’ve only seen Seventh Seal actually. I should probably fix that
