Not sure why Naked Gun is on the list. I consider that more of a mystery thriller.

They Live really seems more of a horror to me even if it does have a good deal of action in it but thats the only one of the list I'd say comes close to Die Hard.

I'd say Akira arguably qualifies as an action film though, certainly not lacking for big action set peices and would be my choice for that year.

Die hard is on a whole different level. It's the best film of 88. It's also one of the best action films of all time. And probably in my top 20 goats.
