Economy Biden administration to fund programs that hand out crack pipes to prevent infection

The kneejerk reactions aside, one of the more prevailing reasons that drug users end up with a bunch of other infections and diseases and a range of adverse health outcomes is sharing needles and other drug use paraphernalia. We've been doing a wide variety of intervention programs aimed at making drug use safer over the years. No one batted an eyelash when they were doing this for opiates, they shouldn't be batting an eyelash here either.

For the people who think that drug use is a victimless crime, these types of interventions help make sure it stays that way.

Drug addiction isn't victimless. Not sure who would think that.

The user is the primary victim bound by a chemical addiction and mental illness. The community is the secondary victim losing a valuable member of the community.

People who sell drugs like heroin and meth are literally selling poison into our communities.

It's a shitty situation all around but this is probably better than letting addicts give themselves hep. I am skeptical this has a real tangible effect though and assume that needle recycle program would be more effective.

Either way, as long as we keep letting people like the Sacklers get away with pushing addiction, having people mired in poverty, and continuing to promote technology that leads to isolation this is all a drop in the bucket.

Rob Ford rolling in his grave, kicking himself for not implementing that while he was around.

Looks like they are funding a bunch of programs to see what works. Each grant capped at $400,000 and totalling just under 10 million per year.

But this doesn't prevent harm, you know, because of the crack. Enablement of drug addicts isn't harm prevention. An actual program where drug addicts are required to stop, are monitored and get benefits for stopping would actually be harm prevention.
You should probably do some research on harm reduction.

I am a big proponent of harm reduction. However, and I didn't see this in the article, I personally would like some of that grant money to be spent on sobriety initiatives, counseling, and various sober living programs.

Enabling drug addicts is what has ruined most US cities. San Fransicko went into details on this issue This will only increase detrimental behavior and bring down the living standards of all in these areas

The willingness to pay for the irresponsibility of others in a black and white situation, contrasted against the unwillingness to pay for the supposed irresponsibility of others in a novel experiment.

The hypocrisy from some of you should be studied.

Addicts don't inject because they don't have access to crack pipes, they inject because the high is quicker and more intense than smoking. This isn't going to stop anyone from injecting.

Biden administration to fund programs that hand out crack pipes to prevent infection and promote 'racial equity'

<DisgustingHHH>

Harm reduction works
And what harm reduction does giving them crack pipes provide? You can get a crack pipe from a $2 plastic rose at a convenience store...

It’s preposterous and offensive that they portray this is racial equity. It shows, yet again what Biden thinks about “poor kids” vs white kids.

It's a bit early to say they are handing out crack pipes, the submissions only closed on the 7th.
Presumably that idea is based on the Canadian program.
Still, seems like Biden's learnt his lesson after voting for the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986.
Apparently that didn't work.

Now this is what I call progressive !
