WASHINGTON — President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. will propose a $1.9 trillion rescue package to combat the economic downturn and the Covid-19 crisis, outlining on Thursday evening the type of sweeping aid that Democrats have demanded for months and signaling the coming shift in the federal government’s pandemic response as Mr. Biden prepares to take office.

The sprawling package includes more than $400 billion to combat the pandemic directly, including accelerating vaccine deployment and safely reopening most schools within 100 days of passage, along with $350 billion to help state and local governments bridge budget shortfalls. It also features more help for workers and families, including $1,400 direct payments, more generous unemployment benefits, federally mandated paid leave for workers and large subsidies for child care costs.

How fast will trump supporters switch to calling this socialism ?
Pretty fast? Just the OP lists the shitload of pork and state bailouts with more fake printed money. What the hell happened to "just give us the checks with nothing else attached" that you were all shouting last week when the attachment was accountability for tech billionaires that costs taxpayers nothing?

Your average sleepy Joe can now spend even more time in the basement.

I didn’t bitch about the last package. Any movement is good movement on this. This package is better than the last.

But as is usual, from now on, everything Biden does will be the end of the world for Trump people.

BDS is real

They're going to find something like $10M earmarked for arts programs that will result in non stop bitching about how we need more STEM.

I'm kind of looking forward to his first formal budget request. The last time the D's held the White House, Senate and House simultaneously, the country saw a record level of federal R&D investment. $Billions.

$350 Billion to bail out pension funds that state's under-funded for decades. Let's not close our eyes and pretend we don't know where that money is going to go. The only thing I am aware Trump supporters wanted is the $2,000 checks.

<Huh2>

Just hit my post history and check every response to anything I posted on the topic. Every post I made on the topic was "McConnell agreed to it under cost free conditions", and every response was "just pass the bill with no add on". Don't you guys get neck aches from reversing position so often?

It's looking like he's going to be very focused on Climate Change which would mean a lot of money in that area.

You don't make someone like Kerry the Climate czar unless it's going to get a lot of attention. Mayor Pete in Transport is another good sign for Climate imo

Biden will introduce the aid package during an evening speech from Wilmington, Del., tonight. at 7:15 p.m.
ET.

The Democratic president-elect said last week the stimulus package would be “in the trillions of dollars” and argued that more spending early on would reduce the long-term economic damage from the shutdowns spurred by the pandemic.

The proposal, called the American Rescue Plan, includes several familiar stimulus measures in the hopes the additional fiscal support will sustain U.S. families and firms until the Covid-19 vaccine is widely available.

Here’s some of what Biden calls for:
  • Direct payments of $1,400 to most Americans, bringing the total relief to $2,000 including December’s $600 payments
  • Increasing the federal, per-week unemployment benefit to $400 and extend it through the end of September
  • Increasing the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour
  • Extending the eviction and foreclosure moratoriums until the end of September
  • $350 billion in state and local government aid
  • $170 billion for K-12 schools and institutions of higher education
  • $50 billion toward Covid-19 testing
  • $20 billion toward a national vaccine program in partnership with states, localities and tribes
  • $690 million to boost federal cybersecurity monitoring efforts and $200 million to hire hundreds of new cybersecurity experts.
  • $9 billion to modernize information technology systems at federal agencies, motivated by recent cybersecurity attacks that penetrated multiple agencies.
  • $20 billion in aid to public transit agencies.
  • $15 billion in federal grants to help states subsidize child care for low-income families, along with a $25 billion fund to help child care centers in danger of closing.
  • Make the Child Tax Credit fully refundable for the year and increase the credit to $3,000 per child ($3,600 for a child under age 6)
The plan is the first of two major spending initiatives Biden will seek in the first few months of his presidency, according to senior Biden officials.

The nearly $2 trillion price tag will likely draw disdain from Republicans, such as Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who may be wary of spending even more after December’s $900 billion bill.

1.9 Trillion divided by 350 million people is $5,400 a person.

Fuck all the shitty pork and issue a 5k check for every citizen. No matter the age.
