Media Bo Nickal on Khamzat Chimaev: "I'm getting finishes, this guy's winning decisions"

i dont even like canzat but lol, bo needs to look at the level of fighters they are facing.

imo both burns and usman beat canzat but bo has not even faced a top 5 fighter or a previously ranked champion fighter.

bo is a fucking chicken and we all know it.

It would be interesting to watch. They both can get control but similarly limited finishing moves.

Hopefully they match him with Khamzat next, just for shits and giggles.

Bo Nickal is the new "Erik "fountain of youth" Silva".

At 28 years old and 6 fights, "he's just starting", "he has his whole career in front of him", "he has 10 years to develop".

He's just naturally very very smug. In a dry way. But I like it. Different personalities is cool as long as you're not a complete douchebag

Sure, but that's a different matter. He is just really off on his assessment, he isn't widening the gap by finishing cans. You can be smug but still be right.

Let's see Nickal fight Vettori next

Nah can't give him an opponent that highly ranked because if he wins they wouldn't have as much freedom with his matchmaking afterwards. If they keep him fighting vs unranked opponents they can control his development much better until he's ready to crack the rankings & push for the title.

This Bo guy is corny for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it's obvious that there's a competition-level difference between a guy who's fighting ranked opponents & former champions and a guy who's fighting fighters who aren't even UFC-caliber.

Secondly, Bo is not an Olympic-medalist but he acts like one and gets hyped as much as one. In Russia, being a college wrestling champion is a laughable bragging-point. Your average wrestler in Dagestan can go toe-to-toe with American college-champions. Having college titles in wrestling is something that only has meaning and significance in America. In Russia, if you don't get into the Olympics, you don't end up with many wrestling credentials, you just end up going into Sambo or MMA. Like, you take Bo Nickal and put him in Russia and instead of his college wrestling career stuff, he'll just be a run-of-the-mill Dagestani wrestler.

Also, just in his general interviews, you can tell Bo doesn't know much about the wrestling circuit in Russia/Dagestan, which is surprising because we know where the best wrestlers in the world come from.

He says things like "Khabib/Islam don't have much of a background in wrestling. They're Sambo guys".

This guy doesn't realize that in the Caucuses, if you don't go into the wrestling Olympics you make your mark in Sambo.

There's no prominent college wrestling circuit where non-Olympic medalist caliber guys like Bo can make their mark.

The kind of comments Bo makes about Khabib and Islam is comparable to some local MMA organization champion talking shit about fighters who are in the UFC but aren't champions just because the local MMA guy is a champion in a tiny org and the contenders in the UFC who are leagues beyond him aren't.
Dude was 2nd place in his firsr year and 1st place for 3 years. That's damn impressive, also he won a lot by pinning instead of points.

Yeah it's gonna be a while before he's ready for ranked opponents, he mentioned possibly fighting guys like Anthony Hernandez & Roman Kopylov, those aren't easy fights for him right now.

I say give him Weidman next imo. Probably not as easy of a fight as people think, unlikely Bo would control & submit him with the ease he's had in his wins so far.

nutshots vs eyepokes

I don't understand that logic tbh. He's said numerous times that he'd dominate everybody in the top 10 right now.

Why keep wasting time with cans when he can be beating top guys which would give him a faster path to the title, and sets him up perfectly going into his next contract negotiations.

Watching that fight vs Brundage it's clear Bo has talent sure but he's still very green & has a long way to go. Vettori is ranked #5, if Bo somehow beat him he would get booked for a title eliminator. UFC wouldn't have the freedom to have him fight #12, #14 etc if he won that fight.

When watching Bo the other night did he look like a guy who is close to being ready to fight guys like Whittaker, Cannonier, Strickland etc? Not at all. There's zero reason to rush Bo at this point. Even someone like Brad Tavares or Marc Andre Barriault would be tough fights for him right now.

Let him fight unranked guys for 1-2 more years, then a ranked opponent, then a top 5 guy, then a title eliminator, then a TS. After that he has like 2-3 years left before the cliff.
People just wasting their prime years. An undefeated record is nice and all, but time is ticking.

Chimaev also had finishes when he was fighting golf players

Now is the time to throw Bo to the Wolf.

Great theater and if Bo gets beat up -- he still has time to fix his shit.

Khamzat as getting finishes as well fighting lower tier opponents. But he actually finished ranked guys like Meerschart and Li
