BYD just took over Tesla as the world leader in electric vehicles. BYD is a Chinese electric car manufacturer. They actually supply Tesla, Toyota, etc... with their lithium batteries and have been in the US making electric commercial buses for awhile. They've already been selling cars around the world and hope to start selling in the US. Their cars are very cheap at $11k and also have very good reviews.

I drove in one recently in Shanghai. It's flashy looking inside, much like Tesla, but suspect it's put together poorly, much like Tesla.

Cant comment on the engine/performance etc.

Both companies have different strengths and thats why Tesla will start moving away from manufacturing consumer products and more into AI and self-drive, BYD makes its own batteries and has lithium mines..... Tesla will not be able to compete on price, approx 40% of an EV's price is the battery pack.....

Tesla will continue its current range of products but I don't think it will venture below the model 3 price point, it's going for the fully automated vehicle market, that's where big contracts can be found.

Do people still not understand electric motors? Any moron could build a home made electric "vehicle" in their garage that would beat any gas powered car in a drag race. These fluff pieces showing drag races between an ice car and an electric car are completely pointless. But people still point to them as if they prove some sort of on road/track performance.

IIRC they already surpassed Tesla a couple months ago.

My friend has a BYD Dolphin and it's a pretty damn good car for its price range. I think they're selling well in Europe too.
