Ciryl Gane accepts 'dangerous' Derrick Lewis' callout, targets summer return

Down for this, winner of this surely gets the next title shot.

Its not as easy to call as I thought it'd be, Ill go Gane by decision but its close for me, can never rule out Black Beast.

Jones will get the next title shot.

The winner of this fight would get next after that. Would be better if Ngannou wins title cause he'd turn around and fight Jones in the summer but if stipe wins he might not fight for a year which would hold the whole div up.

Gane plays it safe and out scores black beast for a majority of the fight before black beast KOs him. BB then goes on to say some shit interview like "shit man, how you expect to win a fight if you just gonna move away"

Ciryl Gane is happy to oblige Derrick Lewis’ callout.

Gane (8-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) is known for not calling out his rivals, but after Lewis mentioned his name as a possibility, the French contender thinks the matchup makes sense as a No. 1 contender fight.

Lewis (25-7 MMA, 16-5 UFC) is coming off a second-round knockout of Curtis Blaydes in the main event of UFC Fight Night 185 headliner, while Gane successfully went the full five rounds for the first time in his career to earn a unanimous decision over Jairzinho Rozenstruik the following week at UFC Fight Night 186

Despite earning a one-sided decision over Rozenstruik, Gane received some criticism for not finishing the fight. But if the Lewis matchup comes to fruition, he aims to leave matters out of the judges’ hands.

“If the fight (Lewis) is going to be OK for the contract, I think I’d like to finish the fight before the end,” Gane told MMA Junkie. “Of course, because I know it’s good to finish the fight, but it’s better to finish the fight before the end. So if I can, I’m gonna do it.”

Gane is wary of the dangers Lewis brings, however, with “The Black Beast” coming from behind on numerous occasions to starch his opponents.

“You see the fight between Curtis and Derrick one week before? Blaydes, if he didn’t (shoot) too much with the wrestling, probably he would win the fight,” Gane said. “But he did just one mistake to go in front of Derrick Lewis and he did just one uppercut and he finished the fight. For me, the people say, ‘Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!’ but I don’t want to do the same game like Curtis Blaydes. It’s a little bit of a shame

He continued, “He doesn’t have a lot of skills, but this guy is f*cking dangerous. With one punch, just one punch, he can finish the game and he’s No. 2 in the rankings just with one punch. So yes, this guy is really dangerous.”

Gane came out of the Rozenstruik fight relatively unscathed, but is looking to take a couple of months off. “Bon Gamin” wants to focus on a strength and conditioning regimen, something he says he’s never had the opportunity to do.

“Maybe not now because I never did a good workout for the strength,” Gane said. “And when you want to work on your strength, you need maybe two months. So not now, maybe in three months, so maybe in June or July.”

what does bon gamin mean

Jones will get the next title shot.

The winner of this fight would get next after that. Would be better if Ngannou wins title cause he'd turn around and fight Jones in the summer but if stipe wins he might not fight for a year which would hold the whole div up.

If Stipe wins, they'll do Jones vs the winner of this fight I think for an interim, I can't see them leaving Stipe out this long.

If he fights like he did against Jairzinho, he will win easily but probably wont gain new fans
if it's domination why not...If he picks black beast apart. Bon Gamin already got the cardio to keep the pace for five rounds...he's a complete fighter...Black Beast is dangerous but he has never faced a fighter with this speed and fight IQ yet...

It could be leg kick city all night. Gane is really good at striking at range and he moves around quickly. Blaydes was able to buckle Lewis a couple times with leg kicks and I feel like Gane will really dig in with those.

Never count Black Beast out, but I think Gane is the favorite here just based on styles and last showings.

Pants are comin’ off, Rick!
nobody wants to see that Randy...

Lewis will knock gane out.

I wish I could see Jon Jones vs Derrick Lewis for the interm strap instead.

The reasons are valid though that Jones is entitled to a immediate ts regardless

When Gane heel hooked some dude i dont remmember last year, someone made a thread saying he beats jon jones in any way he chooses.. 99% of that thread agreed with him... now half this thread is calling Gane meh.

The disrespect to BB is so grating
He doesn't have skill? Wtf, he out grapples very competent HW grapplers
Yes he says I just stand up, but there a lot of gym work which makes it possible
And he has nuclear power
HW is not like other divisions, the technique doesn't need to be pretty with the big boys
Being able to implement your game plan takes skill

I can see Gane finishing Lewis by accumulation of kicks and knees to the body.

Sounds like Gane is underestimating Lewis which doesn't surprise me. Says Blaydes shot too much, he only attempted 3 take downs. Says Lewis doesn't have skills. He has the second most wins in HW history.

I'm down for another hype train derail. Put it on the Houston card in May. Give Lewis 3 rounds in front of his hometown crowd.
One shot is too many if it gets you caught. Blaydes was on his way to outpointing Lewis to a decision if he kept it on the outside.

Obviously the plan was to wrestle at some point but he shot from way outside with no setup and Lewis's whole gameplan was to time a counter.

BB is really good but he's one-dimensional. He's not going to wrestle you or submit you. I think that's what Gane meant.

That said BB is not a gatekeeper like that other poster said. He's a contender who fought for the belt and might do so again.

I'm down with this. My only problem though, is this.

Who does the winner fight?

Miocic/Ngannou II - March.
Winner vs. Jones - summer at the earliest, probably autumn.
Winner of that vs. Gane/Lewis - 2022.

It seems like Gane would have to take another fight after this, if he wins, to stay active and whoever he fights will be a step down from Lewis. I know it doesn't make much sense but I'd have had Gane fight someone like Tybura, just to keep improving and active, then fight Lewis.
