Goofy OP question aside, you do get paid by going on those talk shows. I don't know the terminology, but Craig Ferguson explained it years ago - something to do with guilds and shit. But it's not much, $400-$500 bucks or something like that. And its obligatory for them to pay you, despite how rich you are.

I vaguely recall on Letterman that guests got paid $1,000 or less for the appearance; the publicity from the show, much like Rogan's podcast, was worth a lot.

Big celebs with lots of success don't need money from Rogan to do a glorified pal around and chit chat.

At the other end of the scale, nobodies with no money, just looking to get a publicity boost; they're in no position to ask a fee.

JRE is basically a chat show; and afaik, celebs don't require fees to go on chat shows, it's all about the publicity.

It's a platform to advertise what they're doing. The Rogan bump is real. I think he pays for their transportation and maybe for their accommodations. I'm not sure if pays them a fee.
