Don't have time to watch it right now but I'd guess that it has to do with arrogance.

Smart people know they're smart so before long, they start to buy into their own bullshit and think they know more than they do. And they assume they're right on some topics without even researching the topic, because they're so smart.

Also confirmation bias.
