Social George Floyd statue unveiled at Newark City Hall in New Jersey weighs 700 pounds

All that marching, protesting, looting, burning, and violence after his death and all we got was a 700 pound bronze statue, huh? Oh and some murals of George Floyd. And yellow BLM signs in the street and BLM flags on state and federal buildings. All symbolism and no substance

No George Floyd Act Executive Order from the WH or anything else to combat police brutality. This is what we get: a bronze statue that will be vandalized on the regular by ignorants and will make front page news on CNN. And sadly, many people in these communities will just accept this statue as a 'win'

I've said it before: I don't believe any of the press, politicians, or activists really want any laws or executive orders passed to stop police misconduct. Too many people are profiting off the death of black men at the hands of law enforcement for that gravy train to derail

i bet meghan markle was at the unveiling of this instead of the diana statue.

You guys know it's not really a shrine to him as a person, right? It's a shrine to what his death was able to give them for their narrative. They tried hard with the Ahmad Arbery shooting, but that didn't take off they way they hoped due to the facts of the case. But George Floyd's death gave them everything they were looking for and they exploited every last bit of it. Ask Tamir Rice's mom or Michael Brown's dad how much BLM has shown them they actually care about the people behind the names they claim to be fighting for justice for.

Lol. He's in a wife beater.

Look forward to it being torn down. I really do.

I mean, liberals would be incensed despite not really having any right to be. They set the precedent last year that any statue or monument they find offensive can be illegally torn down and nobody will face consequences. A few months ago, a bust of Breonna Taylor got smashed up and they were in a fury. The lack of awareness on their part is staggering.

Can the city re-donate it to the police force and sell it at one of their auctions?

What's the over/under on how many murders are committed within a block of that thing in the next year?

If they can't even make a safe MLK boulevard anywhere in the country, imagine the unspeakable horrors that'll be going on around George Kirby monuments.

Sorry but this is mental gymnastics. It's a statue of him. If it wasn't a 'shrine to him as a person' it wouldn't look like him.

The logic can also be effortlessly twisted. That statue of the Christopher Columbus? That's not about him as a person, it's about the spirit of adventure, of discovery. Those statues of other slave traders? It's not about them as people, it's about charitable donations to universities. They just, you know, happen to look like them, with their name on it and all.

Well, there are plenty of examples of statues erected for all of the reasons you mentioned. But okay, why do you think a statue of George Floyd the person was put up? What did he do that merited this monument?
