Greater fighter, Dustin or Conor?

pinnacle of ability vs. pinnacle of ability it goes to Connor. Im not a fan by any means, but I'll never forget the line "Precision and timing beats power and speed any day"

I just got into a HEATED dispute with a buddy whos more of a casual fan. Def not Sherdogger level MMA IQ but he knows some stuff about MMA. Big Conor fan. He said Dustin is a choker in the biggest fights and Conor will always be better so it got me thinking, who is greater?

Pro-Conor points

- 2 division champ, 3-1 in title fights including interim (Dustin 1-2)
- has the best win of the 2 in Aldo
- clearly better FW than Dustin was at FW

Pro-Dustin points

- faaaaaar deeper resume and much stronger schedule faced
- 2-1 H2H against Conor
- among common opponents (Brandao, Duffy, Max, Eddie, Khabib), Dustin is 5-1-1 while Conor is 3-2
- clearly better LW than Conor was at LW even tho Conor was champ, he did it skipping the line and finishing someone who Dustin also finished
Dustin, easily.

McG is 1-4 in his last 5 combat fights. Very poor record.

Conor's peak and downfall happened relatively fast, he had like 2 quality championship wins and then started losing. Dustin's had the better career even though he never won a "big money" fight outside of their head 2 head matches, but he's consistently taken more dangerous contender fights ever since his UFC debut against Grispi

Gotta be Dustin, beating a prime Max Holloway who was a sitting champion was insanely impressive

Holloway was a featherweight who didn't bulk up at all for that fight. That's like if Ilia Topuria moved up to fight Islam Makhachev in let's say June. Good name to have on the resume sure but not as good as beating them in the weight class they reign over.

Prime? Conor was out of his prime the second he left the UFC to box and has never come close to his peak other than the blink-and-you'll-miss length Cowboy fight. He has looked awful in and out of the ring since then.

Conor lost a step (or several) because of his own choices, whether it was his personal life, his shift to a more one-dimensional fighting style, a loss of passion, or whatever. He still had the same potential he always had, and had no physical reason to be doing any worse.

Besides, are you really going to make the argument that Poirier was somehow still prime after 11 years and a 26-6 record, yet Conor wasn't when he was 21-3 and only 8 years into his career without taking any major damage the entire time?

Conor is much better at beating midgets, while Porier fights guys his size or bigger. Prime Conor lost to NATE DIAZ <45>

To prime Nate Diaz who came in as WW vs a LW Conor.

Conor is way ahead of Dustin in legacy.

It’s not even comparable, Conor will still be talked and remembered 20 years from now, less so with Dustin.

Conor has the better legacy and at his absolute peak was the better fighter. Conor started partying and doing drugs and just fell off a cliff, if he had kept the same hunger and desire whilst remaining sober and dedicated to the sport he would have gone even further imo.

That said DP is the better human by far and as it stands now the better fighter.
