So we all know how it goes, average sherdogger shits on flyweight and is not interested in seeing 125 pounders fight, because they rarely finish (which actually is not true, with the division having better finish statistics that 145 and 135), because there is no one to talk trash and throw dollies at buses, because it has no depth (well, look at 205 right now).
Still, I agree the 125 divisions isn't the best out there, but getting rid of it (like the rumors say) will leave more space to promote WMMA. And WMMA is like a cancer for the sport level, with terrible skill , 75% of the fights going to a decision, and no stars beyond Cyborg (who is like 300k PPV at best). The 115 female division is probably the only legit one right now.
If the UFC opens atomweight instead of men's flyweight, it will mean 7 men's divisions, and 5 women's divisions. Right now we have the average of 2 female fights per card, and with UFC trying as hard as they can with 145 and 125, it will probably increase.
And as far as this infamous ,,trade" is concerned, I think that the decision to release DJ and (probably) drop 125 is bullshit, I won't discover anything new saying that the UFC stopped caring about the sport values. Especially now, when DJ lost and there may be a wonderful time for a Cejudo trilogy (which may actually gain some interest). But well, it is what it is, the ,,champions league" element of the UFC is just not there anymore and I feel like we are back to these old, Tim-Sylviaesque times, when the champions were actually were leaving the UFC to fight in other organizations.
PS. the data about fight finishes and amount of WMMA fights per card is legit, I have some statistics
