Certainly as the #2 for as long as he was. McHale is up there as well. So is Worthy (problem for them is Parrish and Kareem are such good #3's, it's not like having a defense/rebounding master like Rodman/Grant as #3). Kareem in the early 80's is another choice. Back in the day I guess Cousey wins that running away, but it's best to stick to post-merger NBA as the early days were not on par. Young Kobe probably closest.
Flare up teams that didn't last (or didn't last on top) you have guys like Dr. J, Wade, Pierce, Curry, Pau, Dumars that won titles as #2. Most other championship teams in the post merger era either didn't have a great #2 (Robert Horry on Houston, Old Shaq on the Heat, Old Drexler on Houston again, Jason Terry or Tyson Chandler on Dallas) or didn't have a clear cut #2 like the Spurs teams or the Billups/Wallace/Wallace/Hamilton team in the '00's (who is #1 or #2 on that team? You can say Billups because of FMVP, but he wasn't clear cut #1 on that squad. Wasn't the primary scorer or defender).
If you include guys who didn't win the title (don't know how they could exceed Pippen, this is basketball, not football or baseball. Rings matter in GOAT discussions), Stockton seems like the most clear contender.
I'd probably stick with Pippen for total body of work as #2.
