Izzy was out of his prime

Izzy has around 113 combat fights between kick boxing, boxing and MMA. That's a lot of wear and tear not just physically but also mentally.

Getting knocked out is probably the worst thing that can happen to a fighter. It can legitimately be career changing. Even though he did beat Alex after getting knocked out, Izzy probably needed more time to recover from such a devastating moment.

But yeah, at almost 35 years old it's going to be very difficult to climb back up

I thought it was “he was never good”

If all the Pride legends get this excuse because they started losing in their early 30's so should Izzy at 34

  • Shogun
  • Fedor
  • Big Nog
  • Lil Nog
  • Cro Cop
  • Wandy

By the time Izzy fought Strickland, he had 26 MMA fights + 80 kickboxing fights + 6 boxing matches for a total of 112 combat fights

Therefore Izzy was not in his prime, and prime Izzy >>>> Sean just like any pride fighter in their prime >>>>>> any fighter they lost to at 31 cause prime was bye bye

<WellThere>

Youre actually not wrong. Any combat athlete who has been actively, competitively fighting for over a decade of their lives or more and now approaching their mid 30s would most definitely be past prime.

Even if Jon Jones was to lose now, he would be considered past his prime.

The fact that someone like Bernard Hopkins was still fighting at such a high level into his mid to late 40s was unreal.

Randy Couture winning the HW UFC strap in his mid 40s was nuts.

This is actually pretty fair. These guys all fought a million times, and sometimes multiple times a day. It's a fair excuse for Izzy too.

Izzy is a lot like a pride fighter Tbh. A mew pride fighter

The guy has a zillion fight miles, fought an ugly war with perrera

doesn’t have to be a specific age, but the damage he has taken and given, the long training sessions, fight schedule.

It’s certainly possible, but he didn’t look “past his prime” at all against Alex pereira.

it has to start somewhere but yeah, once he fights more going forward we would see more evidence

What's the explanation for the Gastelum fight?

That version of Kelvin was something else

Last time he showed up for a fight was against Israel to win the belt. But after coming so close and losing he stopped trying , his training camps are him in his basement with his girlfriend telling him what to do

he’s always struggled with motivation, just look at his weight cuts

He looked bad in there, but I think it was more of a style matchup. He seems to have issue with guys that pressure him.

Here is the thing. All these guys from Pride you mentioned do follow the same pattern. They were very dominant in Pride, some more than others, but when they arrived in the UFC they had less success. And yes a lot of that had to do with age, number of fights and being out of their prime.

But for all those guys, fans didn't start talking about them being out of their prime till a few years after they started to lose. For example, the Fedor talk started after he lost 3 fights in a row. Shogun it started after he lost to Gustaffson and had a .500 record, Big Nog is started when he got KO'd by Cain. So the talk didn't start right after they lost a fight but rather had a couple years of losses and slowing down.

With Izzy, we don't know what it is yet, because he dropped two fights at MW in the last year. But consider that both were title fights vs the best opposition and he won one back. It's not until he starts losing contender fights that we can say he's out of his prime. How he performs over the next 5 fights (2-3 years) will tell us that.

Izzy fans have been coping with him losing to Strickland by giving zero credit to Sean and blaming an outside reason. Very mature lol

Some people are clearly having an extremely difficult time rationalizing a world where Sean was just the better fighter on that night. This thread alone probably has like 5 Dreyga alts

the guy came to win, f**king awesome!

Here we go with the usual dirty marketing team... Same thing everytime, multinicks with fabricated profiles, nonsense narratives and etc. Annoying af but, if there's people who buy it, they'll continue to do it. That's life, I suppose.
