His last fight in UFC was Hasqparast, which he won. He got a better offer from ACB than UFC was willing to offer. I think that's a bit different then "couldn't cut it". He didn't look great, granted, but he also had some shit luck. Got robbed blind against Lauzon, and was beating Hadzovic handily before Imanari rolling directly into a knee.

He's no world beater, but he's definitely a solid fighter.
