Social Kevin McCarthy ousted; Mike Johnson becomes US House speaker

Lol, these clowns are giving the voters any and all reasons to bury them politically. First there's this:

Which includes IVF ban, national abortion ban, etc. Republicans in vulnerable areas are already panicking over this.

And now because Mike Johnson isn't stupid enough to shut down the entire Government, the dumbest MF's in the Republican party are gonna not take "yes" for an answer again and try to oust him lol

Mike might not just be McCarthy, though and might actually concede on budget policies to get Democrats to save his career. This level of idiocy particularly from the MAGA wing should infuriate voters.
This is just proof that even though the Republican party hasn't officially split, it is in fact operating in different factions that have very different values. It's obvious they laid down and let Trump take over the RNC because they feared he'd split the party if they didn't acquiesce, but he's just gonna further divide them and drive them towards oblivion.

Whomever is updating the title of this thread, thank you in advance. We might have another revolving door of speaker candidates.

The caucus is revolting.

I hate the US media because of the polarizing. However one of the biggest comedy acts is the strength of the GOP. Multiple State GOP's are in economic ruin right this second. Donors are fleeing the RNC because they dont want to pay Trump's legal fees. The House is defunct, with Republicans rejecting policies they ask for and then punishing their own leadership for asking lol

Nothing at all is going well for the GOP, and reporting on them needs to be framed that way.

Pretty sure the media wants to get the highest ratings possible during this election cycle so they will do what they have to in order to keep viewers tuned in. This is precisely why they are framing "Biden being old" is just as bad as "Trump wanting to overthrow the government and end the Constitution"

Everyone loves a neck and neck race.

If I give Trump credit for anything, it's that he's able to understand what people are willing to do to satiate their greed. He knows how to play the media like no one I have ever seen in my lifetime.

They make their birther bed and birthed the Tea Party lunatics, and here we are

Indeed, an idiot savant if ever there was one. Move over, Forrest.

I’d like to see your av on a loop where it appears and then disappears.
Princess Catherine's shooping skills likely destroy mine so it won't be me who does it, but I'd be down for donning it were someone else to take on the chore.

It's about fucking time. The despicable, clout chasing cunt needs to go, but she seems firmly in place. The 2d best option is for Republicans to do something about her and I don't know if they have will/guts to do it.

They love her on Breitbart. It tells you all you need to know.

I know you won't like hearing this, but the fundamental problem is that they have no grounds to really criticize her. Republicans have largely abandoned the major non-partisan sources of information (the MSM, gov't stats, academia) and put trust in think tanks and rightist media, which does not have any standards for truth. If you're going to accept that Obama was secretly born in Kenya, Hillary has had people killed, Biden is senile and the head of a mob-like organization, the election was stolen, and Trump is the innocent victim of a hit job orchestrated by Biden, why not accept that forest fires are caused by the Rothschilds, and why show any respect at all to Biden? The only stopping point is credibility, and even that is a moving target, as the base gets crazier and the MSM keeps moving to meet them in the middle.

Yes. Let's act like Republicans and ignore the polls. We can do it if they can.

sigh

Since when are they ignoring polls? It's all they've been screaming about for 2 years. Except that entire election cycle when every poll that indicated they would win was wrong.

Polls have biases in how they're conducted. They dont need to be ignored, but they're not dogma, either.

They have no grounds in part because they stayed quiet for too long. I'm sure many of them thought MTG was crazy, but they didn't want to rock the boat. They didn't want MTG, Trump or the crazy base to get angry at them and lose their election.

Well, it's time to pay the piper. I honestly don't know if they can do something about it now.

The left is facing a similar problem. Extremists on the left and right use to be a small fraction. It's not the case anymore. You might say it's not as bad and I'm going to point you to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The antisemitism many liberals have displayed is fucking scary.

Since 2016. They ignore every poll they disagree with.

I think they don't have grounds because to call a claim crazy is to say that it differs from objective reality in a way that suggests a disconnection from a baseline view of that reality. So, like, it's not crazy to say that a home run traveled 420 ft when it actually traveled 400 ft, but to think that it traveled 750 ft suggests that you don't really get the physics of baseball (easy mistake for a non-fan, but one a fan would never make). But MTG's craziest claims are entirely plausible within the deeper worldview pushed by rightist media. It's just that most people who operate within that environment realize that it's a game, and MTG (like a lot of the audience) doesn't. So for GOP officials, talk show hosts, or columnists/bloggers to criticize her would imply revealing that they don't really believe the official rightist infotainment universe narrative. They can't do that without losing the audience.

There are crazy individuals on the left, but the culture isn't in a similar state. I think there are legitimate (and serious) criticisms that can be made of how Israel has conducted the conflict, and some nuts have kind of taken off from there to antisemitism or support for Hamas. There are also corners of the left that take a general view that whatever the U.S. does is bad (these are also the dipshits that tend to side with Russia in their invasion and China in various conflicts). But the mainstream left has no equivalent problem with calling them out. Within Democratic leadership, you have lots of big Israel defenders (too big, IMO). And generally there is vigorous intra-left debate going on (with no one in the mainstream taking the pro-Hamas/antisemitic position of some losers on Twitter). Compare that to how you have no one in Republican leadership willing to call out bullshit going around the right (leadership is continuing to push that Biden bribe stuff even after the key witness was found to be lying and all other evidence has fallen apart). The reason is that there isn't a cultural symmetry.

I read an interview over the weekend that Kevin McCarthy gave on Fox News. He said the GOP lost of the House when he was removed from leadership. The GOP now controls the House by 1 vote. That is due to early departures of GOP members apparently upset over Kevin McCarthy's ousting. I forget his name but the latest GOP member to depart is purposely leaving after the date in which a special election can be held. Rather nasty situation.

Poll denying is common, and it's an area that could be more concerning.

The thing to look out for, IMO, is not merely false beliefs (which are inevitable), but what Julian Sanchez calls epistemic closure (I cite him only to distinguish the term from how it is used in other contexts). It's also different from a bubble (where people are not exposed to alternative viewpoints). It's where people get a structure of beliefs that explain away any criticism and thus form an impenetrable circle (think about how people who are convinced Trump is clean and fighting against a corrupt establishment just take evidence of his corruption as proof that the system is fighting against him). You could imagine how the left could fall into that (corrupt media, big money fighting against their ideas), and it happened a bit with the Bernie movement in 2016--with the same baseless accusations of rigging the primary that Republicans pushed in the 2020 general election. But the mainstream has mostly avoided it.

There is a difference between ignoring polling, and knowing which polls have biased methods of collecting data and why. As an example, many polls are cold calls. Do you answer unknown numbers on your cell phone? I do all my business on my phone and I don't. I screen my calls and encourage initial texts. Then there's the "likely voters" angle which favors Republicans by default, when "unlikely" voters have played huge roles in the last 3 election cycles.

Good info, but has nothing to do with what I said.
