While your mother may be a bitch look at it like this. My mother next to being a BPD doing stuff like you mentioned all the time. She also developed schizophrenia or had it for a long time already but tried to hide it. She had multiple psychosis, attacked me several times. Has insane mood swings and is basically a drag on me and my development and I've never hit her.
You can manage you just have to deal with her bullshit better and not take what she said so seriously. Just enter the gift contest and any bitching you get you respond with laughter and give a gift to your assigned giftee. If she makes a big deal you fucking laugh and she will look crazy.
