Makhachev Broke Volkanovski

Lol, that must be why the fight ended with Volkanovski beating the crap out of Islam.

People need to stop viewing a body triangle as dominating a fighter lol. You think a body triangle broke Volk while Volk was talking shit and punching Islam while he was in the body triangle? Body triangle is a position that most grapplers use to stall the round and try to win strictly on positional control. That's not domination LMFAO. Grapplers that view that position as domination need to start focusing on damage and not just control/stalling. If Volk is talking shit during that position, that's not domination. That means nothing is going on to shut Volk up and prevent him from talking shit and throwing punches from that position. If you are really dominating a fighter they are unable to talk shit because they are just taking damage. That's what domination is.

It wasn’t domination, but it was a measure of control.

Volk talked shit because Volk couldn’t escape. He was trying to sell the “Nothing is happening” crap so the ref would stand them up. Clearly, Volk would have escaped and pummeled Islam if he could, because he did when Ortega had him in bad spots. What? A body Triangle is any different? The fighter’s job is to escape holds. Islam won that exchange and if he wants to stall, so be it. It’s still Volk being held in place by a more dominant fighter.

Volkanovski lost nearly all of the striking exchanges, had no case for winning, and was absolutely mentally broken by Makhachev after getting taken down in the fourth round. He doesn’t appear to handle power all that well at 155 nor does he appear able to deal with the threat of the takedown without having his offense effectively muted. The commentators said largely the exact same thing during the fight.

Volkanovski survived the fight but was unable to initiate meaningful offense due to the threat of the takedown. It is wild to see how many genuinely believe Volkanovski fought good when he did nothing but survive the entire fight. During the fourth round, while trapped in a body triangle, he was yelling at Makhachev and his corner instead of trying to escape and get back to his feet; having lost at least two of the first three rounds. If that’s not breaking your opponent what is?

I wonder if the folks pretending Volkanovski won are really just fans who unnecessarily trashed him after his fights with Max? Now they are trashing Makhachev and his triumph over Volkanovski in a perpetual cycle of clownish behavior.

Put the crack down buddy.

What striking exchanges did Islam win lmao? He got clowned on the feet and won the fight because he got rewarded for stalling out a round on the ground. The only fighter who looked broken was Islam, I don't know if I've ever seen a champ look so defeated after a "win".

Volk Knew he lost....delusional fans just won't accept it...

You’re either really dishonest or really stupid.

The Islam nuthuggery is strong this week lol

The irony of volk and his fans being upset that Islam won via better positioning and controlling the majorty of the fight.

And one thing is for sure Islam's win sure brought out the poor sportsmanship of volk and his teammates.

Dang it's been a while since a fight split the community that much, it's actually wild

So true. It's like sherdog is split down the middle. The last one of this magnitude was Yan's knee DQ loss to Aljo.

I think what makes people mad is that Islam was just holding on for dear life with that body lock. Dude hardly went for a sub and never ever even came close. Islam was just point fighting at that point and just stalling hoping to spend the whole round hugging on another man. Islam hardly threw any punches when he had Volks back. Thats the problem, do fuckin something. Try to inflict damage, I mean is this a fight or a hug fest? Then look at how Volk did when he was on top control the few times. He was throwing strikes the whole time.

Lack of Striking Defense: Volkanovski's striking defense was found lacking against Makhachev, who dominated the exchanges and landed significant strikes. He was unable to handle Makhachev's power and it showed in his inability to defend himself effectively.

Poor Takedown Defense: Volkanovski's takedown defense was also a major issue in his fight against Makhachev. He was taken down several times and was unable to get back to his feet, effectively muting his offense.

Mental Breakdown: Volkanovski was visibly broken mentally after getting taken down in the fourth round. He was yelling at Makhachev and his corner instead of focusing on trying to escape, showing that he was mentally defeated.

Lack of Initiative: Volkanovski was unable to initiate meaningful offense due to the threat of the takedown. He was simply surviving the fight, which is not enough to win against a fighter like Makhachev who is known for his grappling skills.

Lack of Fight IQ: Volkanovski made several poor decisions in the fight against Makhachev, showing that he lacks fight IQ. For example, instead of trying to escape from the body triangle, he was yelling at his opponent and corner, which shows that he was not thinking logically and strategically. These types of decisions will not bode well for Volkanovski in future fights, especially against high-level fighters like those in Jungle Fight and Rizin.
