Because their main goal is to look good, not have you call them a woman. Whether they do or not is in the eye of the beholder, but that’s their goal. Not to get some invisible brownie points, or to have some barrier between them and criticism, like over here. It’s really a different story altogether. And they generally let you know what they are too. Consequences for not doing so isn’t so kind a lot of the time over there too.
