im glad you said "that's just me though" otherwise i would have to respond that this is maybe the most self centered and egotistical position ive ever heard on this topic. we aren't discussing YOU or what YOU should do. nor should you be making the case that people ought to follow what YOU are doing... we are discussing human beings and the many and diverse situations human beings find themselves in. if you had been making a case that everyone ought to be more like you then that would be a pretty poor conversation.

there are so many circumstances and positions and situations that people find themselves in and to pretend that one size fits all would be a foolish game to play. im certainly not interested in that game.

i can say however that there is nothing sad about the people i have come across on this level. ive seen incredibly high levels of parenting take this route with absolute goodwill all around.... for both spouses and for the kids. it turns out people have a great and profound capacity for meaning and happiness that is bolstered and supported by not consuming trashy reptilian brain stimulating content.
some people find that consuming trashy content lowers their consciousness and so they dont do it intentionally... for these people it weakens the profound bonds of subtle love and peace and silence they hold within themselves. there is a direct net negative in terms of subjective experience in life observed by them.... and im not just talking about porn here either...

in addition many people discover that the profoundly sacred nature of sexuality and the opportunities intense spiritual sex offers for self transcendence and mystical experience is lost when lust for other people and pornography are consumed. for these people watching porn is a net negative to the subjective experience of sex and sexuality and that the intensity of sexuality is increased exponentially when NO thoughts about other partners and NO lust is ever nourished towards others and NO porn is consumed. i know lots of people coming from this place.

you say the world is trashy and i agree but many people just treat it like food and stop consuming junk food and find themselves better for it. judging them in favor of self bias seems small minded and petty.

but thats just one group of people.... there are so many others. many people have been wounded deeply by sexuality and find themselves in a position where intimacy is much more difficult or even impossible when pornography is involved. sometimes in a marriage only one partner feels that way.... it could be the man or the woman depending on the relationship. for those marriages love and self sacrifice demands that porn be put aside out of self giving and love for the other. ive seen many very happy men and a couple of women who have come to this level of love for the other and its been a net positive for their marriage and for their character as human beings in the long term. its not what you are thinking and projecting onto it at all.
