Most sherdoggers don't understand what MMA evolution is about

The real problem with this debate is that people only focus on the small handful of best fighters. Less than 1% of fighters.

Most of the gains are made further down the rungs. The 11th best fighters of any era is better than the 11th better fighter of the prior era. The 111th best fighter exponentially so.

The very best fighters can overcome whatever evolution has occurred. Because whatever it is they have, is a more valuable variable than a few small gains in evolution.

I remember a
Did you have a stroke, buddy? You ended mid-sentence.

If you are going to try to convince people of a large scale evolution in the sport, you'd probably be better served by breaking it down by weight class. It's pretty obvious the higher the weight class, the less these evolutionary changes have made any difference.

Terrible thread. Adesanya is a pure kickboxer with no wrestling or jiu jitsu game and he is completely dominating the sport.

I mean, really terrible thread. Why are all the top fighters at the age athletes retire from other sports?
If MMA had evolved, there is no way they could hang with the new generation. In fact, most of these guys are from the 2000's.

When we talk about MMA evolution, we are not talking about how new techniques are invented. We are talking about how new techniques are being implanted and utilized more in MMA. Like calf kicks and cage grappling for example. MMA fighters getting better at boxing and fighting at a higher pace are also signs of evolution.

Another thing people don't realize is that having better athletes is also part of MMA evolution. As MMA continues to get more popular, it's bound to attract more and better athletes from around the world. I don't think people realize how much more popular MMA is currently compared to the 2000s or the early 2010s.

Sport is still new, it is bound to evolve in many aspects.

MMA is an endurance sport. If you can't see that the overall level of skill has evolved, you haven't been watching long enough.

evolution of mma will attract more athletes like Ngannou?!

A+ athletes are choosing WWE.

There are many stagnant divisions these days. There are also a lot of high mileage fighters in the top 5. Dana's contender show brings a bunch of prospects with very limited experience for the UFC to keep the roster fresh.

The way MMA evolved is more about the sport's perception and popularity.

the new fans didn't know they had a way to defend calf kick when Conor lost, damn casuals.

calf kick defense is a basic defense that has been around for a long time.

a dinosaur like Glover received TS, Jan is also a veteran what evolution is this?! Even Decadent Aldo defeats Modern Fighters.

Naming a few outliers or exceptions does not equate to the overall state of the sport vs what it was 30 years ago. Glover, Jan, and Aldo are all evolving and improving in their own ways as well. I'm a big fan of Aldo, and I think we can both agree he's not 5 levels ahead of his peers like he used to be. Shit, man, not even after dropping a division.

His grappling and TDD/sub defense isn't bad or anything, though if he wants to be LHW champ he needs to fix the holes in his grappling game. Jan just made him look like an amateur because of his size and greater skill. Other than Marvin and Jan nobody has held Izzy down for any significant lengths of time. The biggest problem is that he's essentially cleared the division, and like you said he did it without being super well rounded just excellent in one area and passable in the other.

Actually reminds me of Anderson, good wrestlers gave him problems his whole career. He was just so much better everywhere else that it was easy to downplay.

popular it might be.
But it won't attract many fighters while the pay (compared with other sports) are so... insignificant.
The only guys that goes into this sport are those who do not carte much about the money.

Gifted athletes will rather try their luck in other sports that pays better.

Mma fighters are just gay porn stars anyway. Who wants to see two guys pounding each other.

The fighters have been evolving, but the sport has not.

Jan would have destroyed Chuck and Tito. So what?
What a bad post. Jan is a 50 year old washed up KSW has been. And speaking of Chuck: Glover was his actual primary training partner. Yes actual training partner three whole decades ago! And Glover has a finish over Santos who finished Jan in ufc lol
