I tried asking this in the "glossary of moves" thread and got no reply. Hoping my luck would be better here.

Only talking about :30-:40 seconds into the video, he applies the choke. Once the guy is flat on his back, i drop my near hip and finish my choke from there.I have a lot of success with it and it's one of my go to moves when the north south fails. I have no idea what the name for it is, does anyone know?

Sorry I'm a n00b and couldn't embed, it just showed up as a url.

Also, for the choke to work, the trapped arm is closer across his neck. My hand under the neck goes out to the armpit/shoulder to make it tighter. I hope what I'm saying makes sense.

There was a thread about this recently. The consensus is that it's called a Howdy Choke, but there were several other names also associated with it.

Thanks guys. I was guessing the head and arm, but I wasn't sure. What was the thread title, do you remember? I'd like to read it.

It's a great choke, not in itself but for setting up d'arce chokes, kimuras & mount!

Here is the thread I started...

I've seen it work with the gi, with the lapel used as in brabo choke.

Love it. It's really easy to pull off and makes for a good control position to set up other chokes if you can't get the guy to tap from the head and arm.
