I just checked, he was actually only 44. Pretty incredible makeup and what not to make him look older than he is.

Holy. Not sure how much was makeup and how much he just aged like milk. They really did age quite a bit worse than now on average. Now got to see him outside that role but in the same timeframe. He looks so close to Needful Things in my eyes...

Yeah, it gets better with time and has layer upon layer of meaning. Kubrick was a erudite and it shows. Plus, it's scary as fuck.
