Anybody here produce music?
I just picked up an Akai MPC X and I'm loving it.

Interested in other peoples setups.
I'm new to this whole thing but i probably have 200 plus hours on the machine in month or so.
Just trying to learn.

Don't care if you make hip hop, house, trap, or whatever.
I'm looking for a decent turn table and keyboard.
Give me some tips!

Damn that’s some pro gear you got yourself!

Post some mixes when you’ve messed around a bit!

What's your budget on a turntable? You looking for listening or scratching?

I will make a note and throw some stuff up.

It's almost embarrassing, I have never done any producing or beat making AT ALL.
I just keep pumping in hours and fiddling around, and iv'e had good results

This MPC is so capable it's insane. I've had friends that actually pump out albums and they were amazed by it. They also use a computer with plug ins so the work flow is completely different.

The only thing i know is how to do is work that MPC x. I can't do shit on anything else.

It really is a standalone studio centerpiece.

I do
Hardware
Marshall 100 Watt Solid State Amp
Epiphone Explorer Guitar
Boss GT-10 Effects Pedal
Dunlop Wah Pedal
Access Virus TI v2 Polar Synthesizer
Rode NT USB Microphone
Custom built PC running both Windows 10 x64 and Linux Mint (16 GB RAM, i7 3770k 3.5 GHz overclocked to 4.0 GHz, EVGA 970 GTX)

Software
Goldwave
Cubase
Pro-Tools
Spectrasonics Omnisphere
Absynth
Alchemy
and various other software synth VST

I am replacing the amp with a better one and also buying a new guitar and possibly a bass in the next few months

The reason i got the MPC i have was because i don't have a good computer. The computer i'm on now was about 230 bucks new. I can barely watch HD porn with it.

So by the time i got a decent computer, good software, pads, etc... id be over the price of this standalone MPC. Granted, you can do much more with a computer and software. Even Akai will say if you hook the machine i have up to a computer it is way more capable.

I don't play guitar but a few of my friends do. I usually just XLR cable right out the guitar into the MPC and takes great samples. The only instrument i play is trombone, which i need to figure out how to record properly.

I'm searching everything you just listed.
Thank you for the input.

Once i get a decent studio room set up and put a couple hundred more hours on the machine i'll be more productive.

Don't have hardware myself (too poor at the moment haha) other than my midi keyboard and my mic for recording foley. Software-wise I use Ableton 9, FL Studio 11 and a lot of the proprietary VSTs that come with those DAWs. Outside of their stuff, I love Massive, Sylenth, Absynth, Serum and a few others.

I personally prefer software to hardware because I have more control over the sound, but having knobs to play with is always so damn fun

Good gear is an important tool but to get results it is all about the user, put in the time and have dedication and you will get results. Good luck.

Work hard, research, keep learning new techniques, work hard, practice practice practice!!!

Good luck.
