I still find the show entertaining occasionally, but yeah I agree. There was a period there for a couple of years where he was entertaining and he didn't spew so much nonsense. Now? Too much

I am surprised that people still fall back on Rogan as some intelligent human being. He's said so many ridiculous things at this point, it's impossible to take most of what he says seriously.
 
Not just in regards to fighting - but at a certain point Joe Rogan went from regular dude to insufferable guy with money who thinks his opinion is fact. It started with Rousey can beat a guy (lets all let that sink it. He said she could beat a man. Why would you listen to his opinion after that?) - and continued with all the other stupid shit. Anything who watches shit like this has to have a fucking awful life. That's the only way you could find this kind of ass hatery entertaining.

GSP thoroughly dominates Jorge. Jorge WAS fighting at the time Georges was reigning over the WW division. The reason they didn't fight each other is that Jorge was busy putting in decision wins and losses against people you've never heard of.

This idea that fighters have evolved so much in the last 10, 15 years that any accomplishments from back then are automatically downgraded, is absurd. The average fighter today hasn't unlocked some secrets of nutrition or technique that make them far better than the fighters of 15 years ago. The number of people interested in MMA has certainly increased, but then the scrutiny for steroids has also increased. If anything, Georges' competition was BETTER than the WW of today.
 
So that was when Mas was a cash cow and Joe got instructed to hype him up for the UFC to montize his 3 fight win streak. Just americans doing their money hungry business and bending over for bills.

This "Evolution" of MMA is exaggerated. Georges reigned 10 years ago, which isn't very long to have some big evolution in fighting. Usman debuted in MMA the year before Georges basically retired and Usman spent half of his career being a 1 dimensional fighter.

I honestly think EVEN people who were actively fans of MMA when GSP was in his prime during his reign forget just how fucking great GSP was.

It’s understandable as he’s retired much earlier than Silva or Fedor, and Jones is still active. Plus he’s happily retired and pretty quiet.

He’s honestly under appreciated by some.

relax there with the under appreciated comments lmao. Demetrious Johnson is under appreciated, GSP is one of the biggest and most appreciated names in the sport's history

Agreed. I think more so than a refinement of technique and conditioning between say, 15 years ago and now, there is more of an evolution, in the true sense of the word. Fighters are doing slightly different things now than before, there are techniques that were used then that are not used now, but this is just sort of a cultural shift. It's not that fighters are gradually unlocking more and more of the secret essence of MMA and are objectively better fighters than they were.

There isn't a WW today who could reliably defend GSP's absurd blast double takedown, and not one who would have an easy answer for his footwork and educated jab, either. And there won't be any time soon. Some little shifts and tweaks occur in terms of what techniques are relied on but the average fighter today still relies on a few key fundamentals of fighting that will never change, though the approaches to these might shift over time.

GSP would do a good job of staying out of range of Jorge's weapons, would land the jab easily and would be able to double leg him more or less at will, just as he did against all of the other elite fighters he fought across his title run. Jorge brings absolutely nothing to the table GSP hasn't already seen and thoroughly dominated.
