That's black women pretty much everywhere.

Hair with that type of curl pattern is tough to grow into any type of real length. Even if you straighten/relax it it tends to get brittle and break/split. Your choices for naturally long African hair are dreadlocks.....and well, pretty much just dreadlocks. Some people can grow an afro pretty well but that certainly isn't in style right now so you're more likely to see extensions, weaves, and wigs.
