They were already rich. It's at 9.2 billion now, so more than double what they sold for.

If you can compete w all sports leagues? they have 30 owners, you get all the money for the ufc and its on PPV. Bad move imo They should have at least kept 50% to be safe.

lol y'all have no idea what you're talking about.
They didn't just sell and sit on cash.
They poured money into their family mafia casino business Red Rocks Resorts, which is now a public company and has gone up in value about 250% since they dumped money into it during the covid crisis.
This was a better move for them since they have more power/experience with running casino, whereas the UFC required more connections in the media and entertainment market globally, rather than the Fertittas who specialize in ruling over a more regional fiefdom of financial hustle.

anyone can start a casino

there's only one UFC

Part of the reason the Fertittas sold was because they needed new owners that had much more political clout to expand the UFC and do things like get them in New York. The head of wme is Raul Emmanuel's brother (the guy they said was the person that controlled Obama) and his father was a head honcho in the Irgun. You do not get more politically hooked up than that. It would have been impossible for the Fertittas to grow the company like this and make the moves wme has.

It's about keeping the company in the family name. You're printing money forever
True but the money they have is printing money. That family or the generations will not spend all that for a long time. If they do??? They would piss away what they’d be earning now as well.

From this it seems like Dana benefits from this. He wants the Fertittas to sell to somebody with more power to grow the UFC. Fertittas also didn't just sell the biz and sat on the money, they invested the money into other things. Overall it wasn't bad for both sides.

Yeah, imagine only making billions on something they built from nothing.

Must be hard.

They didn't build it from "nothing." The UFC was already fully formed and functional when they "bought" it from Bob Meyrowitz' SEG. SEG only sold to the Frittatas because they couldn't get event permits to generate money. Remember, there was a fight for legalization of this sport due to it being perceived as "human cockfighting" by some. In fact, if Lorenzo hadn't denied the UFC event permits when he was head of the NSAC, SEG might have never sold to the Frittatas at all....

This is the correct answer.

No. Not just anyone can start a casino. They are their own special license to print money off of the rubes. Heck, even Lorenzo and Frank's father was banned from the casino because of his involvement in the money skim which was portrayed in the movie, "Casino." Those guys were "affiliated," if you know what I mean. Also, running the UFC is a pain in the ass because it is such a specialized, niche, sport, and because it relies on people from questionable social and financial status being coerced by social and economic pressures to participate. This is why so many fighters walk away when they get a taste of real money. They are better off with the casinos, which are easier to run.

Didn't they try to buy a football team?

You are correct. They tried to buy the Raiders. They have a private venture fund that invests their money.

How much did they buy it for?

Barring some monumental fuck up in their family, they will always have generational wealth, they are still making a fuck ton of money without the UFC.

Somehow their 3rd cousin Tilman Fertitta is worth $6 billion and is in a similar business.
