This has been discussed repeatedly in the Russian/Urkaine megathread.

Over $2 Trillion was spent in the war in Afghanistan, with our own men dying, with basically nothing to show for it, and there was no outrage from the groups claiming outrage on the money which is being spent to aid Urkaine.

Meanwhile for a tiny fraction of that money, we are providing the means for a sovereign nation to defend itself against one of the US's enemies for its right to exist, diminishing said enemy's capabilities to wage war in the future, minimizing its sphere of influence, and even sending a message to China to think twice about Taiwan. All things considered, this is the most effective use of US military spending we have seen in decades.

"Sovereign nation", aka the one whose government we helped overthrow 9 years ago. And if we care so much about sovereignty, why don't we allow Luhansk and Donetsk to join who they want to join? Or does sovereignty only mean sovereignty when it's a nation that suits American war interests?
