EXCLUSIVE: Trump's Justice Department moves on Harvey Weinstein and orders FBI to open probe over fears he will 'do a Polanski'

The FBI has opened an investigation into Harvey Weinstein, DailyMail.com has exclusively learned.

DailyMail.com understands the move came at the behest of the Department of Justice, run byDonald Trump's Attorney General Jeff Sessions, which instructed the bureau to investigate the mounting allegations leveled at the movie mogul.

While it is unknown whether the DOJ order came directly from Sessions, the move is likely to be seen in a political light given Weinstein's friendship with Trump foe Hillary Clinton.

The move by the DOJ came amid rumors that Weinstein plans to head to Europe for sex rehab – leading to fears of a Roman Polanski-style situation where he dodges prosecution in the U.S.

The FBI can both look at whether he has committed any federal crimes in the U.S. and prepare extradition proceedings if he remains in Europe.

Among the allegations against Weinstein, which the FBI is expected to examine, is that he forced Lucia Evans, a student who wanted to be an actress, to perform oral sex on him in New York in 2004.

New York State has no statute of limitations on rape and criminal sexual acts - its legal term for forced oral or anal intercourse.

I agree, but it'll be hard to prove anything happened on that island. Both Bill and Hillarys names are all over Lolita Express flight logs, but there is 0 evidence they did anything illegal on that island. It's fucked up how many people went there though. Even Hawking.

Epstein was a good friend of Trump's, and apparently had many parties at the Mar A Lago.

And we know Hawking is not a pedo. He's more of a robo porn type of guy.
 
Trump defended Ailes amid widening allegations of sexual harassment and other inappropriate workplace behavior.

In the wake of a harassment lawsuit filed by ex-anchor Gretchen Carlson, numerous other women have come forward to speak with investigators. The heads of Fox News' parent company, 21st Century Fox, determined that Ailes must step down from the channel he created 20 years ago. Ailes resigned under pressure on Thursday, effective immediately.

Speaking with NBC's Chuck Todd, Trump repeated one of the defenses put forth by Ailes' side: "Some of the women that are complaining, I know how much he's helped them. And even recently. And when they write books that are fairly recently released, and they say wonderful things about him."

Given Ailes' past work as a Republican political consultant, and given the fact that he and Trump have known each other for decades, there was immediate speculation that the two men might start working together.

"Is he helping you? Is he advising you?" Todd asked.

"Well, I don't want to comment. But he's been a friend of mine for a long time," Trump said.

Ailes and Trump speak regularly by phone, and sources said they counseled each other last week, as Trump was preparing for his RNC acceptance speech and Ailes was preparing to resign.

Trump also showed his trademark loyalty to friends in the Showtime interview with Mark Halperin.

What Ailes has "done on television, is in the history of television, he's gotta be placed in the top three, or four or five. And that includes the founding of the major networks," Trump said.

"So, it's too bad," Trump continued. He added, "I'm sure it was friendly. I know Rupert. He's a great guy. Rupert has great respect for Roger and everything Roger's done."

I hear what you are saying, but Epstein was friends with most of the New York Democrats, and Trump was a big Democrat donor at that time.

There is less evidence linking Trump to that island than Clintons. Hillary has been on the flight logs 6x, Bill at least 11x and it is the only place he visited without secret service around. Either way, cant prove any of them did anything illegal.

Harvey and the Good Rape Hunting bros are a different story tho.

Not at all. Folks are praising Trump in this thread and commenting on how it could be political in motive. Weinstein and Ailes cases are very similar. Hillary and Obama attacked for waiting a day to put out statements condemning Weinstein, yet Trump defended Ailes and kept consulting him on his campaign even after all the accusations and he was canned from Fox.
