Friday we turn things up. But my coach fought a lot in Thailand and lived there for years so he teaches us like how he was taught in Thailand. Go 50% back and forth back and forth so that you both see and are able to react to everything. Coach beleives it is a more "help me help you" type of situation. Thanks for posting. We do spar hard over here

I knew of the different philosophies on training/sparring but this was very interesting too see. Rob Kaman being one of my all time favorite fighters love the Dutch style
Theres a video on youtube with interviews with a bunch of MMA guys. Dillashaw, Nelson, Cerrone, Jon Jones, Josh Thompson and Overeem.
EVERYONE advised against hard sparring except Overeem, who said something like I always go 100% and I don't get hit that much in sparring.
Out of all the interviewees, Overeem was the fighter with the most losses by KO. I LOVE dutch style but honestly the hard sparring is super dangerous and very unhealthy to your brain health.
Even a guy like Michael Johnson, who looks like a demon in sparring at Henri Hooft's, has gotten mushed on his feet so many times at this point that i wonder if he'd actually do better going light.
Geez they weren’t exaggerating, that was some hard sparring! Haha.
Can’t believe they do that every day.
In most gyms in the Netherlands where I have trained, it's once a week hard sparring. You must wear 2 shinprotectors on each leg, so you can kick pretty hard without damaging your sparring partner. Also you have to wear 16oz gloves during sparring.
Personally I hate headgear. All it does is ruin your peripheral vision and make it harder to see strikes. First time I ever sparred with head gear I took a a full power headkick that I didn't even see that rattled my brain.I find that wearing more protective gear and bigger gloves only leads to guys throwing harder as there isn't as much fear of hurting shins, wrists or knuckles.
