Weidman made 48k KOing Anderson Silva

Fighter pay has come a long way in just a decade. Can you imagine Paulo Costa making 24k? Or Giblert Burns?

I don't actually know their salaries but I'd assume most challengers make at least 100k nowadays.

Where else would Weidman get paid that kind of money? What other talents does he have? If it weren't for the UFC, he'd probably be a high school wrestling coach making 30k a year.

or making that playboy money teaching bjj at his own affiliated school.

Seems fair

He was unproven at the time and wasn't a draw

He deliberately chose to fight out his last contract on his old pay and chose to wait until after the fight to negotiate. He was looking to have more leverage.

It paid off as well.

That's pretty ballsy to take that fight for that little money, but it paid off because he was able to negotiate a new contract as champ.

He makes 500k a fight during his bad run because he took and won it.

It really hasn't, in fact as a total of revenue its actually regressed a bit in recent years.

The average is around 18% of revenue going to fighters. As the rights fees and revenues have exploded (read: literally doubled) fighters are still getting table scraps.

You're forgetting to include the free fight kits and reebok coupons tho
