No reason to have an inteirm title if Nate is getting the next title shot anyways. And Nate would likely be considered on of the worst UFC champions in modern history and would get whupped in his first title defence if he didn't retire.

I understand the times are turning towards money fights at the expense of belts, but the belt still needs to be respected to some degree.

If Conor doesn't put out a defense by early 2018 he should simply be stripped. That way the money fight people can do their thing and the belt people can pursue their goals as well.

Ideally, Conor should defend the 155 belt at least twice before taking a trilogy fight. Hopefully against Tony and one of the Khabib/Lee/Gaethje trio.
