Wondering about the Matt Hughes thing .. I didn't want to cloud up the updates thread .. plus its kind of a medical question .. Could there be a whiplash induced concussion without the head slamming into anything?
 
Are you sure his head didn't slam into anything? The brain can take a lot of damage from an impact that doesn't actually fracture the skull. This was just demonstrated in the Tim Hague tragedy.

And yes, concussions can be caused by whiplash. It's hard to think of many situations where the head is subject to more extreme acceleration / deceleration than being on the "car end" of a car / train collision.

Saw one on the BBC once. She was out for a while.
