To be fair, there were plenty of uninspired shovelware, dogshit ports, buggy messes and just terrible games in the 90s too. I'm pretty sure I played most of them. Ever play mega man for DOS? That shit will damage you in ways you can't comprehend.I'm not necessarily talking about doing something new, it's more about refining what came before and expanding on it thanks to better tech.
There are lots of great games in the 2010's/current, namely From Soft titles, Witcher 3, Prey etc... TLOU 1 is one of the goats also. Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the best games I've ever played. There are tons of great Indie/AA games too.
My criticism for modern gaming is publishers going heavy on uninspired sequels, or taking the "live service" unfinished route, not to mention intentionally piecing up games to sell components as DLC. Gating off areas with a mindless grind to encourage microtransactions is not just incredibly predatory, it ruins the flow. Woke garbage in everything has plagued so much of gaming as well, mainly an emphasis on identity politics over story/vision.

Right now there's endless good shit. There's stuff on itch made by a single person in a week that shits on all but the very best games I played in the 80s, and we have giant fuck-off productions like bg3 or whatever the latest FF is.
And sure, Street fighter 6 is derivative of street fighters of the past, but it's also a lot better than any of them
