Why should guys have to promote themselves to get exposure?

LOL how can you promote the fight without promoting the fighter genius? The real weight classes don't have the luxury of being a gimmick like flyweight & WMMA.

They do it all the time. With fill in the blanks cookie cutter platitudes meant to fit everybody. The fighters who get special promotion are the ones who take advantage of the stage and promote themselves to the next step.

The UFC and Dana White promote their events. If you're on their event, it doesn't necessarily mean you're being promoted. The same way that the curtain jerker for a boxing PPV with Manny Pacquaio on it isn't getting promoted by Bob Arum.

I do agree with you, but, unfortunately, I think that's just not how it works. Fans are drawn to entertainment and controversy. If you're not fun to watch as a fighter, then there better be a reason people want to watch you as a person, whether its wanting to see you win or wanting to see you get beat up. In sports, being able to put butts in seats is just as important, if not more important, than being talented.

Floyd Mayweather's first PPV match was against Gatti, who was a far inferior fighter compared to Floyd, but was a huge draw with the fans because of his fight style. Now that Floyd has all this media attention, he could fight anyone and it would be on PPV.

Bernard Hopkins was the king of the middleweight division for years but his first PPV was against Tito Trinidad, and that was only because of Trinidad's reputation as a KO artist.

Tim Duncan is probably the best big man to ever play basketball, but you never see him in commercials because his game is just not as exciting as other players in the league.

KAJ, Wilt and Russell where definitely better and Shaq had a higher peak

no, that is actually the way it works.

So they should help Dana do his job while he gets paid 5 times more, seems legit.

No, that is the promoters part. Why the fuck do fighters have to do 2 jobs, fighting & promotion? Keep saving Dana brah.

Most sports athletes who promote themselves make the most money. Stop fucking acting like this is only Dana and the UFC

it's both the UFC's and the fighter's job. the UFC spends money promoting the fights. the fighters have the chance of promoting the fights even more by themselves.

No one said they have to promote themselves.
But if you found out you could potentially make more money at your job just by being a character, wouldn't you do the same?

Why not just promote yourself.... Bounce aroundtown .. dancing.. with sparklers'
