Sometimes the evolution of slang really gets out of control, because originally a cuckhold was defined as the man who knows his wife is cheating on him and does nothing to stop it; there had to be that element of cheating, meaning he didn't want it, which is different from a guy who is perfectly okay with a wife that fucks around.

"Cucking" is a nebulous term, which only becomes somewhat clear in random context -- but no matter how the concept is specifically being explained, it's got nothing to do with the actual manifestation and everything with trying to emasculate someone. Not exactly, but you are correct in part. A cuckold is defined as a man who's wife is sexually active with others. Whether he is okay with it or not is irrelevant as the girl he put a ring on is getting fucked by other dudes.
 
99% of it all boils down to dudes that watch way too much porn and start feeling inadequate about themselves. Couple that with their brain training to watch instead of act, and you wind up with an inadequate feeling guy who would rather watch his wife get banged than actually bang her himself.
