Soros now saying we need to put a new leader in Russia. While I don't like putin I sure the hell don't want any advice from soros on the matter. Why he even has a say is beyond me and scary as hell. China and Russia see what's coming and don't want any part of it.

Even though China is not in favor of religion there values are a lot closer to biblical ideal and they are conservative and spiritual. The Metaverse discussion was pretty ho hum. Basically just an executive summary of developments in AR, VR, IoT and their economic, social and governance potential and requirements.

Overly optimistic too.
Downplaying the monetisation of AR/VR through advertising and data mining. Downplaying the digital divide and inequality. Saying that live, virtual interaction with less anonymity will solve online toxicity inline with actual social norms. Downplaying the potential for people to use an AR/VR metaverse for a literal reality bubble of polarised interaction and views (with resulting extremism). Barely mentioning Neal Stephenson's dystopian Scifi vision (Snow Crash) in which the term was coined etc etc.

Of course the metaverse is technologically determinant globalisation in it's most essential form. While the war in Ukraine and pandemic have lead to strategic deglobalisation or decoupling of manufacturing and supply lines, the globalisation and growth of the online service economy ran counter to that trend.

Hence the utopian socialist idea of everything becoming a service in a circular economy rather than property in our current consumer economy.
Most of the speakers aren't quite that pie in the sky though.

What Klaus Schwab and company are doing is known as fascism. They are implementing statist socialist goals through a mix of state power and corporations. Government doesn't have to put you in jail, all it needs to do is send highly centralized corporations after you to make your life impossible. They have to keep their ESG score up to remain on good terms with government and other corporations, so you need to be punished.

What i love most about those WEF articles is that they're presented like some advertisement for a wonderful utopia while the actual contents are a Maoist nightmare of subjugation, surveillance and dependence.
