People can't get close enough to land decent punches. You have to shoot from super far out because of the distance. No one can do much on the outside because he often has 6-12 inches of reach on his opponents so its hard to play outfighter against him. Fighters are also tentative with takedowns because of his excellent front headlock position. If you try to get close he elbows your face and kicks your knees. The only guy that hasn't lost to him and can match his frame is Dom Reyes. Well see how Johny Walker fares as he moves up the rankings as well, but as of now I don't see how anyone can beat him due to physical advantages and his steroid exemptions. Perhaps at HW he might not have the same advantages against guys like Reem and Stipe.

Gus looked clueless in there :(

Jon's fight IQ is incredible. It's his IQ that wins him fights, if he didnt have the reach he'd just adapt and win using other tools

I mean... no fighter would be as successful if you made their body worse.... Obviously the reach helps. But Jon is freakishly talented and athletic as well, he'd still be a great fighter without the insane reach I'm sure.

Would Artem Lobov be successful if he had a normal reach?

He'd still be good if he had a small advantage. MT is still super valuable and if he had the same dimensions but no MT he'd have lost his title to Gus because those elbows that changed the tune of the fight in the fourth round would have never come.

Would Mike Tyson be better if he had Jon Jones' body type?

Yes
He'd adapt
Every weight class has skillful fighters with reach
Why aren't they all undefeated like Jones too?

Jones stopped getting by on his reach a long time ago
He wore both DC (first fight) and Glover down fighting in a phone booth for the majority of the fight.

No. His physical attributes are a huge factor on how he became so much better than everyone so fast.

That's called being on juice. He's so juiced up that he has both the cardio, strength and he can take the punishment fighting like that.

Successful, yes, just not as successful. Would have a couple L's I'm sure.

He would be a different person if he wasn't who he was. This kind of question is stupid. Would Machida be who he is/was without great reflexes? Would Cain be who he is if he had no gas tank? Would Hendo be as great as he was if he was pillow-fisted? Would Michael Phelps have been as great as he was if he was a midget?

C'mon.

No! But such physical attributes being missing would also result in all successful mma fighters having significantly different records.

Would Dan Henderson have the same record if he had no knockout power and was pillow fisted?

The roids are more important than the reach.

Would Fedor still been successful at Hw if he was born a 4'9 Chinese woman named Fook Yoo

Honestly TS, who gives a flyin....? Because obviously he has that attribute and the reality is Ummmmm...Real.

yeah, reach isn't as important as movement.

His reach is part of his game. Are you asking if he fought the same way without the same body type that he built his style around?
