You think there's a lot less doctors now than 50 years ago?

I was just talking to my friend's dad who's in his 80s and he said in the 1950s and 960s, doctors and clinics were fighting for patients and that you can just walk into a clinic or hospital and see a doctor

I think there's a lot less doctors now compared to the population. You gotta set up an appointment and you won't see a doctor for 3 weeks, then when you see him, he talks to you for 15 seconds and pushes you out the door to talk to the front desk so they can refer you to a specialist. Then you have to set up an appointment with the specialist, which at the earliest, you won't be able to see until next month.

Then when you see the specialist, he'll tell you to set up an appointment with the blood testing place for next week. Then you have to set up an appointment with the specialist again once you get your resulsts. Then he can't figure it out, so he has you set up an appointment with this other dude next month.

Just going by the phone listings, there are a lot more doctors now. 50 years ago, doctors appointments were often set up months in advance. Yes, I was around back then.

Yes.
Don’t make as much money as once did, plus weigh in 8 years basic schooling + 3 to 5 years residency, + 1-3 years in a fellowship program + in addition, rising malpractice insurance (expensive more for anesthesiologists & surgeons), unless it’s your passion/calling may not be worth it compared to past.

Nurse practitioners have also filled a big part as primary care physician.
Less private practice than compared to 80s as well.
More specialized clinics though with anti aging TRT/hgh & cosmetic/aesthetic care.

If u are smart, money is in tech & finance, imo.

A lot less good ones.. Canada hires a bunch of people from different countries to be our walk in doctors here, and you tell them what's up, they walk over to their computer, google the answer and tell you what you already know ahead of time.

Because back then they'd just give you cocaine, amputate a limb, and call it a day.

Also... *he or she ;)

I know I dont want to be a doctor. I want to be a youtuber or tiktoker

They make way more money and are valued by people and dont work long hard hours.

Modern medicine has only been around for the last 30 or 40 years, IIRC

Way more doctors per capita now than there were in the 50s.
Problem is most of them are doing admin work instead of actually seeing patients.

And people who are much less likely to become doctors are pouring into the country, making waiting times even longer.
Foreigners make up something like 25% of all licensed physicians in the U.S.

My doctor did this. I know more about my thyroid than he does. Next.
