Is it possible to keep your back straight on this? I'm going to attempt this tommorow but I'm watching youtube videos trying to learn but it looks like everyones back is terribly rounded. Is there a special way to set this up it looks like you can fuck up your back doing this.

I see a video of a guy doing them on saftey pins is this a legit way to do it?

well, you can do a zercher squat (starting from the rack) if you don't want your back to bend

like this:

a zercher dead is from the floor, a zercher squat is off of pins.

i can't eveng get down to pick up a bar for a zercher deadlift :D

What exactly is the point of the Zercher Squat?

Edit: I mean what are the pros/cons vs. front squats?

see I was looking for a new way to make the lunkheads at my gym stare at me and snicker from their glute machines...this should do the trick :)

nice vid, thanks for info guys. Not familiar with the exercise myself will do some research...

here's what Nick Best wrote:

"The zercher will give you way more core stability strength. Helps with stones, conans, farmers, yoke, and any deadlifting event."

and besides, they are just manly!

Pros: They hurt your arms, are manly and give you awesome core strength.

Cons: I guess... I guess you can't do as much weight with them? Maybe?

i could do 45 lbs more on the zercher squat than a regular one

but that was way back when i just started...

Zercher deadlifts look insane to me. Scary.

Zercher squat pro's and con's vs. front squats

Pro's
No wrist discomfort
Easier to stay upright and keep the bar under control
Most people can go heavier with Zerchers
Makes you look insane

Con's

Bar scrapes on forearms
Less application to Oly lifting
Less of a challenge to master
Harder to hit extreme depth because bar contacts legs on the way down

I wouldn't go mucking about with round backed lifts unless you know what you're doing and are at a relatively high strength level.

Since you decided to make a new thread for it, I'll say what I said in the old one.

Read this:

The Zercher Experiment: A Strength Training and Powerlifting article from Dragon Door Publications

And here's a Wendler quote, for everyone here who idolizes him so much.

"I don't do Zercher squats because I'm not in prison, and I have a squat rack."

I think zerchers are a great assistance exercise and a great primary one when you have an injury preventing you from squatting/deadlifting (as the TS does). Unless you're an advanced lifter though, you should either do them off of pins, start at the squat rack or deadlift the bar to your thighs before re-setting and finishing with a zercher. Starting from the floor in a zercher position is a bit risky unless you're an advanced lifter and know what you're doing, and have the body type/mobility to set up for the lift in the most ideal position.

I see no reason to do zercher deadlifts.

Zercher squats are understandable.

I'm a long way from being convinced that any rounded back lift is a good idea.
