Bellator 135: Warren vs. Galvao 2 6:30PM ET Prelims/9PM ET MAIN CARD DISCUSSION

lol so how exactly was Joe gonna get out of that? just continue to scream in agony while big john just stared at him? lulz

He was going to tap after the scream for sure because he wasn't getting out of that, Big John just got there first.

Joe Warren was using a banshee scream to explode Galvao's head. Big John fucked up big time tonight.

Everyone advocating the verbal tap must concede that Weidman is not undefeated.

How does being an old rule not make it a shitty one? You still can't kiss your wife in public on Sunday in Delaware.

Because it's not a shitty one. It's the same principle as when a guy is getting pounded on and he's not defending himself: the ref stops the fight. Warren was in no position to defend the kneebar and was just waiting for it to break. If you're screaming from a submission attempt and not getting out, its over. He should be thanking McCarthy for saving his career.

Because of public perception. Imagining Jon Fitch's eyes bulging out of his wine red face, while Palhares keeps cranking, while the shrieks of death from Jon keeps getting more gruesome. That would not be good PR.

Neither would Velasquez - Bigfoot, but that's another story.

always been the rule. I remember causing a fuss after the John Albert vs Erik Perez fight but the rule has been upheld since then. no matter how stupid it is, the scream has always counted as a verbal submission and there's no way he didn't know that.

So happy he lost. Guy is a douche.

scream doesn't end the fight. it has to actually be noticed and stopped by the ref. Like I say with Palhares, his opponent can be tapping with both hands and screaming while his corner is throwing in the towel and a doctor is trying to bust into the cage. it isn't over unless the ref notices it and chooses to stop the fight.

If you scream when you get cranked, the referee will stop the fight, if you don't know that you are a stupid little kid who should learn something about the sport before fight/keyboardfight

Screeching in pain isn't a very good thing, and you can't expect to wail like a banshee and not have your fight stopped, the referees are there to protect the fighters. If Warren would have grunted or had less of a "bloodcurdling scream" reaction, Big John may not have stepped in until a tap.

Lion Fights is still going on, for everybody interested in other combat sports.

LOL this guy literally stop defending and then screamed in agony and people are contesting the stoppage.

Its not a shitty rule , if you have ever grappled you would know it. Sometimes you can't tap. So if you cant tap and it hurts so bad you scream in pain the ref should just sit back and let the other guy break your bones?

Did you see Joe's arms impeded? He could tap just fine, he just didn't want to.

Referees have a lot of leeway. And a guy with BJM's experience knows very quickly whether or not a guy is in a position to tap or not. He knew Warren was perfectly able to tap if he wanted to. If his arms had been trapped, then of course BJM would be much more justified in making a judgment call that scream constitutes a tap.

You're trying to make this black and white which is wrong. It's not. Like I said, refs have a lot of latitude when it comes to making judgment calls, and then should use that to allow fights to continue when a guy shows he's in pain yet is perfectly able to tap.

Who gives a shit if he has a loss? It literally changes nothing about his status as number 1.

Plus, Weidman was actually trying to escape, while Warren was just chilling in that kneebar, looking clueless.

Warren should be happy that he's walking out of there. Big John did the right thing.

Warren front runner for salty loser of 2015

This

Warren has no reason to complain, he knows that if he wants the fight to continue the three things he can't do if he is caught in a sub are tap, scream or get his appendage snapped/get put to sleep

Clean win for Galvao imo

he was trying to guilt trip Galvao into letting him go :icon_lol:

Big Nog did that to Barnett.. And should have lost right there.

Can sombody mix that scream into 'it takes two' from Rob Bass? Please?

They're both expressions of pain. Clearly they're not the same thing, I'm not saying they are. Just that they represent the same feeling, pain, and that neither are sufficient reasons to end a fight. You're supposed to be in pain in a fight. Getting hit so hard you fall on your back hurts, too, but when they end a fight as soon as that happens most of the time we cry about an early stoppage.

To me its just not comparable, it was an agonized scream that came straight out of intense pain. Most mma fighters I would assume are used to pain, and for someone like Joe Warren to scream out like that instantly he mustve been very hurt. The rules are supposed to be there to prevent severe injuries from happening.

If you wanna argue that a fighter has a right to destroy their limbs, that might be better but I definitely do not agree. If Joe knows that a scream is a tap (thus ending the fight) and still cries out loudly knowing it will be stopped, then what does that say about the extent of that submission?
