Maybe, but the act of programming itself is hours of relatively anti-social work. There is team collaboration and a lot of other things that go on of course, but the primary focus (especially for starting out in the field) is the act of programming itself.

So that sort of thing (programming, which is sort of like engineering and building in the digital domain) has to appeal to people in order for them to enter the field.

There are other more social roles within IT such as business analysis which do attract more females in my experience.

I find that women excel at design and conceptual thinking, which translates to discovering higher value propositions, more attractive builds, and yielding better outcomes.

Engineers tend to think they are gods. Don't they get tired of propping up their god complex when nobody wants what they created?

Engineers find ways of solving problems and building things to match various requirements basically. They don't come up with the requirements, typically.

As to the idea that women have an advantage over men in areas of design and conceptual thinking, I wouldn't know. Probably depends. There is a lot of that that goes on within engineering as well (conceptualizing ways to solve problems before actually implementing, and designing architecture)

Yes, he was working in the tech field, so 83% males, 1% Blacks, 2% Hispanics. Since they're typically trying to make their stats look as diverse as possible, I'm pretty sure some of those non-whites in the statistic aren't even seen as non-whites in real life. I think if the vast majority of your coworkers are white and Asian males, that's not really a high level of perceived diversity. I'll go out on a limb and guess that most of those Asians were excellent CS or engineering students. It's not like they're picking up black high school dropouts from the streets of Detroit just to have a higher percentage of African Americans or hand out software engineering jobs to blue haired female SJWs with a degree in gender studies.

I'd say the same thing if a liberal guy was fired for liberal beliefs that didn't gel with a conservative company. You really thinks its a good thing if companies only want people of one political ideology? Pretty ironic for a company that prides itself on its diversity.

There's a difference between disagreeing with a company policy and publishing a manifesto against it-- especially when you know it is a sensitive topic that is going to arouse a lot of heated emotions. If he had a concern, I would say the responsible thing to do would be to express it to his boss and see if he could get a dialogue going in house, not to try to seek public attention by expressing a polarizing political opinion when that is NOT his job (he's the one that is choosing to make his politics a workplace issue in this case, not his employer).

I'm not saying I hope he gets fired, but Google would be well within their rights, I think. People who have the attitude " I'm going to say whatever I want however I want whenever I want" don't usually last long in any job. That's been my experience from restaurants to law firms. Most people don't just get to opt out of norms with imunity.
