Do you have friends who are on the opposite side of the aisle?

Maybe you are. I'm not. I'm talking about Politics. There is more to the office than the man in the Oval. It's about policies and the plan for our Country. What about his policies do you disagree with? What is the better way under the Democrratic plan?

The national GOP as an institution is devoted primarily (if not exclusively) to upward redistribution of wealth. You can't understand politics in America without grasping that. It explains why they have no real governing plan (their "healthcare" plan, for example, was to cut taxes on millionaire investors and pay for it with Medicaid cuts) and why they fail at basic functions like staffing, handling disasters, maintaining infrastructure, inconsistency on deficits (it's an apocalyptic concern when there's new proposed spending and no big deal when there are much larger upper-class tax cuts on the line), etc. People aren't studying policy impacts and figuring out ways to improve the country. It's pure Randian-type ideology combined with cynical appeals to religious rubes and racial resentment to broaden the support base.

Democrats are a normal center-left party. There's no single unifying vision because it's a coalition of people with different concerns. Ultimately, Clinton's pitch was, "unlike the other guy, I'm smart and experienced, and I'll have other smart, experienced specialists helping me come up with good solutions to whatever might come up." Not inspiring, but true, and the path to improvement in the real world. The closest thing to a general theme would be "broadly shared prosperity," and the mission there is stronger economic growth that is divided more equally than recent growth has been. The environment might be the most important issue, though, but the Democratic answer is just "We're not crazy nutters. We know it's a real problem, and we have some ideas that should help."

I'm in CA, nobody here likes Trump. I keep it to myself. I usually don't chime in on any political stuff.

Except to some of my close friends, I like to troll them about how great Trump is and MAGA!! Cuz I know they don't really care. But if I know they're the serious type, I won't say a thing. Unless, they seem like a bitch and I don't care about their friendship, then I'll go on to troll them cuz I know after we're done they will unfriend me.

Most of my close friends who I hang out with are cool and don't really care about my political views cuz they know I'm a cool guy and will stay friends with me. But I also know a few libtards who will unfriend you for talking shit about Sanders or Clinton. So to those guys, I just nod and agree with them.

And of course I have friends and family with different opinions, I know far more Trump supporters than Hillary supporters. In fact, I don't know anyone who actually paid attention to politics and actually supported Hillary but were on the anti-Trump train.

I generally don't talk politics in real life though because there is no point. You generally can't change opinions in a conversation and I grew up debating on the internet, where I can pull out sources and facts... If you completely prove someone wrong, they can always dismiss it by saying you have a biased source, because it's not like you keep a fucking paper around with your sources, and if you actually try to look for it, you'll just look like a douche for it.

Lol!!! Sure, everyone that votes for Trump is unintelligent. Though I agree there are a lot of idiots that voted for him, to just assume all that did are unintelligent is literally you just creating a fabricated boogeyman so that way you can justify your bigotry and retardation. There's a reason why Democrats have gotten their shit kicked in the last few years in elections. You're post is a terrific example.

Not a big deal. Judging by your post here and your past posts I can tell you don't have many friends anyways. Beggers can't be choosers.
"Not all Trump supporters are idiots..."

"...You're post..."

Like pottery

What republican ideals do you not agree with?

voter suppression, religious ideology, women's rights, rampant capitalism (more corporatism), anti-science, anti environmental protection, energy policies, climate change, tax policy, terror exaggeration and on and on

Less words would be better. That looks like something you copied and pasted. None of what you state in the top paragraph is even remotely true. Those are just liberal talking points. As for the second paragraph? Where's the substance? You said a whole lot of nothing. Tell me these "better" ideas that the Dems have? Let me ask you this: Do You really want open borders? Do you really want Sanctuary Cities? Do you really want Higher Taxes? Do you really TRUST the idiots in the Government to run our Health Care system? Do you prefer big Government over State's Rights?

I'm going to guess that your answer to the OP's question is "no." The next question would be if you have any friends on the same side of the aisle.

Speaking of copied and pasted. You made almost this exact post word for word in another thread, and I answered. And your inability to engage intelligently with disagreement is noted. Welcome to the WR.

That's hilarious because he replied to me with a typical C&P conservatard talking point about "Demz being da real KKK!"

Now, I understood why he came to that conclusion, and I edited my post as a result, but you simply can't call out people for copying and pasting when those are your talking points. Not to mention he's completely new to the WR if he thinks that's some shit you just C&P'ed

Pot meet Kettle. You have not made one congent post about what your side actually stands for. All you can do is lob insults and talk about how much Trump upsets you. Answer the questions then. You most certainly did not in the other thread that's why I'm asking again. I'm seriously interested to hear if you do indeed support these things. If so, grow some balls and say so.

Do You really want open borders? Do you really want Sanctuary Cities? Do you really want Higher Taxes? Do you really TRUST the idiots in the Government to run our Health Care system? Do you prefer big Government over State's Rights?

My closest friends (5 of them) are perfectly split. Two are staunch conservatives, one being a Trump supporter and the other despises him. We have one moderate, slightly right wing on domestic policy (immigration, taxes, etc.) and left on social issues. My buddy and I are lefties, he being a Bernie type and me being more in line with a Obama type.

People who won't have friends with opposing political views must be real assholes.

Yes I do , I like a lively discussion, what the he'll is wrong with people , not wanting to or not being able to discuss politics is somewhat dangerous imo

Won't that only lead to a worsening of the divide
That's a great point. We'll be much better off as a country if we can discuss political differences in a civil, productive way. Tribalism is detrimental to all of our goals.

I'm for less Govt. control, less regulation, lower taxes on businesses, free market healthcare, a strong Military. What are Dems for?

Quite a few of my friends voted for Trump. My dad did, too.

It's why I think the political discussions that happen on sherdog aren't representative of most of the country. Every once in a while someone will try to strawman but it's pretty easy to fix when you actually know each other and you're face to face. I've never had a discussion about politics with someone in real life that devolved into "but liberals/but conservatives!" That's just something argumentative strangers do.

Meh, doesn't even sound like you're reading the posts you're responding to. Good luck.

You sound like a Politician yourself. You conveniently avoided answering the question so I'll ask it again: Do You really want open borders? Do you really want Sanctuary Cities? Do you really want Higher Taxes? Do you really TRUST the idiots in the Government to run our Health Care system? Do you prefer big Government over State's Rights?

I'm in support of a public option not full socialized medicine. I'm fortunate to be able to have very good insurance and I don't want it messed with. I would like to see poorer people like @ripskater be able to have a public option that may not be a Cadillac plan but something in case his family suffers a catastrophic injury or illness. NOBODY should go broke because they get sick or hurt. I'm also for paying a little extra in taxes so that my neighbor can have insurance. (I'm not sure my christian friend @ripskater would do the same)
I don't want to see govt run healthcare.
