Iran: "U.N. Vote a Resounding Global 'No' to U.S. Intimidation"
Dec. 21, 2017

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif

Iran's foreign minister is welcoming the U.N. General Assembly resolution rejecting the Trump administration's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, calling it a "global no" to intimidation by President Donald Trump.

Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted after the vote that the resolution soundly criticizes "Trump's regime thuggish intimidation at UN."

Iran does not recognize Israel and supports anti-Israeli militant groups such as the Palestinian Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, and the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Israel views Jerusalem as its undivided capital.

The General Assembly voted 128-9 with 35 abstentions in favor of the non-binding resolution.

Why should a sovereign nation like the US need the permission of anyone other than the host country to put our embassy where we'd like?

It's dangerously and needlessly insulting to the US.

That doesn't follow along with the Rothschild Rockefeller globalist schema. How dare the US try to remain a sovereign nation. The nerve of those Americans.

The Islamic militant group Hamas is welcoming a U.N. General Assembly resolution calling the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital "null and void."

In a statement, spokesman Fawzi Barhoum calls the resolution "a step in the right direction" and "a blow to (President Donald) Trump's announcement." He says the resolution emphasizes "the Palestinian right to the holy city."

Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, seeks a state in all of historic Palestine, including what is now Israel. The Western-backed Palestinian Authority, under President Mahmoud Abbas, claims Gaza and the West Bank as part of a future Palestinian state, with east Jerusalem as capital.

Because all of those countries are overrun with extremists and don't want to be attacked.

Our status as probably the worlds prime consumer is what has allowed the US dollar to be the defacto currency. When you buy everyone's shit making their nations richer, it gives you a certain amount of leverage on the world stage.

Um no, the US dollar became the defacto currency because you represented 40% of the world's GDP after WW2 and because gold was too limited on supply for the size of the world's economy.

Otherwise why would people exchange tangible goods for paper? wouldnt China or India with the largest populations be the centers of the world?

Being on the correct side of the issue. Duh.

There is no clearly correct side to the issue. Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel. It makes perfect sense to put our embassy there in accordance with US law.

There are several reasons people feel we should not do so, mainly that it would hurt the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians. That process has been a joke since the 90s when the Palestinians turned down the offer of a two state solution.

Wide use of dollars internationally has very little impact on our wealth and power.

America has ran large trade balance deficits for what? 40 years now?

You are right that in the grand scheme of things it isnt that much, but still would be a drag for the economy to be forced to produce a lot of the things that are now imported on the cheap.

LOL. You're silly.

Its an affront to international law and the only international piece of body that has a shred of quasi-legitimacy, we are slowly but surely devolving back into a might makes right world, and with the rise of China as an authoritarian powerhouse, things could certainly look uglier in the future.

yeah and all countries that abstain are close US allies like canada. i think they abstain because it just look too bad for them internationally to vote for it. i think that muslim and mainly arab oil money a big reason for these in favor votes. but a ton of countries not show up.

to me an abstain is same as not supporting the resolution it similar to basically support resolution.

look for UN crimea vote. all US allies and nato and puppet states vote against russia. but all russian allies abstain, vote with russia or no show.

a recent BS human rights complain by Ukraine was vetoed by china, russia, kazakhstan and their allies. 26 vote against it and 70 countries abstained from the vote.

I think the abstain votes are people who are afraid of Trump, so pretty much all right wing governments in latin America, Canada and UK.

I wouldn't say "large" for 40 years. Let's say around 20. Not sure what that has to do with other countries having dollars in reserve, though.
