I like Fedor, but you guys are such prisoners of the moment.

Can we stop the biased bullshit guys, Fedor is finished.

Someone tried to say that Fedor has a 70% chance of knocking out Stipe based on his performance at the weekend. It's hard to defend you Fedor hardcores when I read statements like that.

I like Fedor, never been one of my top 5 favorites but I've always cheered for him. Unfortunately I think I missed the prime years of Fedor Emelianenko and have only been able to enjoy his greatness in retrospect. I remember watching Werdum (one of my favorite fighters) submit Fedor, and I was absolutely gutted to see the streak end. All that said, he is past it.

Let's take a look at Frank Mir's last few bouts:

So he got slept with the first punch of the fight against Hunt and stared at Arlovski for 15 minutes, prior to that Frank knocked out the biggest hype-job we've ever seen in the Heavyweight division (Duffee) and a completely shot version of Antonio Silva. Prior to that, Mir lost 4 in a row, Overeem, Barnett, Cormier and dos Santos.

Beating Frank Mir in a 50-50, swing from the hips and see who drops first type of fight is not exactly impressive. Outside of a great submission against Nogueira (who already knocked him senseless beforehand) Mir has been done for years, getting a win over him means next to nothing.

Fedor just got knocked out by Matt Mitrione guys. You want to start jumping around and saying that he somehow proved his GOAT status last Saturday, when only a few months ago he was slept by a guy who is barely in the top 10 in the world, if that. What about the Maldonado robbery that was shockingly never overturned? He was beat within an inch of his life against a small Light Heavyweight, a poor one at that.

I get it guys, he is amazing, he achieved amazing things in this sport. At one point he was probably the best of all-time, but people get old, they get outside of their prime. Fedor is still doing well to even be somewhat competitive at this advanced stage, but please stop the whole he's the GOAT again and he will beat Stipe type of bollocks.

Thoughts...?

I think Mir was rejuvenated in this fight, he’s known to like Kangaroo meat and he could eat that stuff in Bellator.

Plus he knew he was fighting a huge name.

You're wasting too much of your life worrying about what people are saying after an exciting Fedor fight lol

Nothing wrong with us enjoying the moment.

All the same, he's still 39 in a few weeks and he's had no semblance of high level success in almost 10 years.

It's all well and good being back on the kangaroo meat and being "focused" but when you come out and try one takedown, have it fail and then go into a panic, swinging for the fences and hoping for the best style of fight, you are promoting the chance of getting knocked stiff. It could have been Fedor on the deck just as easy, but Fedor had the better head movement in that exchange.

Mir fought an awful fight, has a compromised chin and hasn't beaten someone legit in years. Even Nog was WAYYY over the hill when he broke his arm.

I enjoyed the moment too, I was actually buzzing for him, but you should be able to enjoy a moment without being ridiculous in your claims.

Nobody was sitting here claiming that Matt Mitrione would/could sleep Stipe after he knocked Fedor stiff, but Fedor beats a washed up Mir and now he's the GOAT again.

Be real.

I mostly agree but I think it’s worth pointing out Mir seemed slightly rejuvenated in that fight.

Fedor UFC HW champ 2019

has nothing to do with that -

its the fact that he beat a decent big -fighter in the cage

in a cage in a cage in cage in a cage

which means he must be working with a new trainer .. rome was not built in a day it was built by losses bloodshed defeat and then victory

Fedor is washed up and isnt top ten in the world. Still the best heavyweight ever but it is what it is.

Agreed.

It was a good win considering where Fedor is (career wise) at this time, but he is still well over the hill and not good enough(anymore) to beat top comp.

Fedor in his prime was #1 no argument imo, but that time has well and truly passed

Well, if we're being honest, let's start with the fact that Stipe is nothing special, and that he made a career out of beating over the hill fighters.

Beating Mir after him being out two years is far from impressive. Especially since Mir actually dropped him first. Mir’s inability to follow up shows that he’s done.

Meathead knocking Fedor out is a more accurate statement of the way things really are now imo.

If Bisping had beat GSP nobody would have given him credit for it. Because beating a former WW, who hadn’t fought in 4 years really wouldn’t have been that impressive.

For that matter. Mir beating Fedor wouldn’t have been impressive either.

Lol at the first gif. Is that dude with the baby offering her up to the JBG, or just Mark Hunt? Wtf.

Didn't see posts going so far about Fedor. He's been done since the StrikeForce days. Any win should be cherished by his fans like it's the last, because it probably is.
At least he's fighting other past prime guys now, kinda. Cool that he got a win, but he shouldn't even still be fighting.

If you honestly think that the cage is that big of a deal then I'm not sure what to say.

I know there is this narrative that he's awful in a cage, and heck that might even be true. All of the things Frank pointed out pre-fight may be true, he's not good up against the cage, he doesn't use it the right way etc. none of that stops you from landing a counter inside of a space, and that is what happened. If we saw Fedor wall-walk and do other stuff in relation to the cage, then I may half agree with you, but we saw nothing of the sort.

Fedor won by swinging winging punches at a guy who was also winging punches, nothing about that was high-level. The best thing we saw from Fedor was the hip toss, that was great.

He beat a plodding, slow, over the hill, compromised fighter. You say Rome wasn't built in a day lol, the guy is 40, he's been trying to build Rome for quite some time now.

Not Ngannou. You can hate on his wrestling but Stipe did take so many power shots in that fight, Gave them right back and still had the energy and power to blast a double leg takedown from one side of the cage and literally run Francis all the way into the other cage and then being driven enough to force him down and keep him there. That requires some great conditioning and will. Both men were obviously tired but Stipe was able to push through the pain and fatigue and that's why he is champion. Fedor still has the type of will and he would fight till death but his body and the skills that come with youth have faded. All he is now is a super dangerous brawler who fights like he knows his time is running out.
