They also know the JBG isn’t fond of LNP grapplers and has handsomely rewarded the company in the past for dispatching them (mas vs Askren).

it’s something people don’t do enough actually, countering takedowns with knees and uppercuts. obviously it’s higher risk than sprawling and getting underhooks, but it’s also way more effective. most of the high level wrestlers in MMA have trips on lock now anyways, so getting underhooks is less of a death sentence for wrestlers.
