Semi-retired for several years and has 4x as many sub losses as sub wins, but mma fighters who don't grapple much get black belts all the time, so doesn't really matter.

HAH!

That mofugga getting a black belt.

He purchased that ish.

Connor is probably black belt level for a few years already. He really isn't that bad. He isn't going to win major grappling competitions but he has been training with Irish Edmund for roughly 15 years.

BJJ guys suck the dick of MMA fighter who's worth hundreds of millions on social media? Unbelievable.

I'm not saying Gordon or Dillon have never sucked any dicks, but at least Gordon isn't owned by the Irish mob.

That being said, good for Conor but I'd still bet on Demetrious Johnson over him in a jiu jitsu match.

Yeah the whole "you got submitted you can't be a black belt" logic is pretty dumb.

You can even be a high level black belt level and still get steam rolled by world champion level.

Fffs I've seen worlds competitors at the blue and purple belt level absolutely clean up legit black and brown belts. There's a huge difference between some 26 year old who's been on the mats 20-30 hours a week for the last 2, 3 or 4 years, competing every month and doing strength training who doesn't have a family or a set career path yet and some 34 year old who's a legit black belt that's been showing up to class 3x a week for the last 12 years and has competed only a couple times in the last decade. Black belts don't mean you're better necessarily, but there's usually a precedence of knowing all the techniques, terms, being comfortable in all positions, knowledgeable and technical along with the time served/experience.

Agreed. Even Machida or Vitor got submitted. I always see them as personal milestones. Obviously everyone has their own Journey.

Black belts arent a championship belt...

Its not like having one means your some world beater at BJJ...

It simply means you've reached the point that you can begin to explore the Martial Art from a different point of view then when you started, your not a newbie any more and you've gathered enough skills that you can now begin to form your own style and take on it...and with that knowledge if you wish to you can begin to train and grade others.. something you can't do with any other rank before it... black Belt especially first Dan is meant to be exploration of the Martial Art from someone whos been taught all that is required to teach themselves meaning exploring applications and not really learning how to they've done that part by then..., whether they want to just compete or now teach or stop all together, or do a mixture of all three is up to them...but its not a Belt purely based around skill level...its more about consistency and dedication as well as proficiency and skill ..

People saying no have no idea what they are talking about lol

this. If he’s been training 20 years with MMA being the focus it’s hard to believe he isn’t black belt level. Not sure what people here think it means but it doesn’t mean you’re Damian Maia lol

He's literally never subbed anyone though lol.
