Like most fighters, he's missing one (or more) of the pieces to be one of the greats. If I had to pick, I'd say his work ethic or mental fortitude are his main problems.
Dude, Jones v Gane lasted 2 minutes total. Gane has shown to be, at the very least, as nimble on his feet as Pereira. Jones' win over Gane doesn't really show any negatives on how he'd handle Alex.
The higher the weight, the less important age is. Power and timing are at a lot more important than speed at 205.
Still, Pereira is gonna get old sometime.

This fight isn't the smartest from a pure, trying-to-get-the-belt perspective. But its an intriguing one all the same. Last time Max was fought at LW he looked just like did at FW, and each time Poirier hit him it stopped him in his tracks. If that happens again with Gaejthe...
Max is a true warrior, a real fighter. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but I appreciate that Max is reaching for greatness. Neither him or Gaejthe really needed this fight actually; they both coulda just waited for a title shot.

Case by case basis. If you got a guy on a 10 fight win streak, yeah, give him the title shot. If the division has a lot of parity of you only got guys who have won a few in a row... well, you work with what you got.
